Some people of the boards don't seem too fussed on this book, but there are quite a few amusing moments in it. I like it when they go to the infant care class (with the inconsistancy of Jessi asking what colic when there was a whole Super Special on her and colic : . But didn't anyone find it a little weird that there was a big "ceremony" where they all got their certificates? I mean it was a 6 week infant care course! And jealous Dawn strikes up again, because everyone thought she'd get the perfect score and she didn't, Kristy did ;D And the baby parade itself... love the BSC fighting in this one and the way they kept insulting each other's ideas! Whose idea would you have liked for a float? - Kristy - Take Me Out To the Ballgame - dressing up the babies in little baseball outfits and designing it like a baseball pitch Dawn - Surfin USA - dressing up the babies cool outfits, putting them on surfboards and designing it to look like the ocean Mary Anne - The Three Little Kittens - dressing the babies like kittens with mittens and having Tigger on the float Stacey - New York New York - dressing the babies in tuxedos and evening gowns and designing it to look like the skyline.... OK Stacey is uber obsessed with NYC and kinda crazy, this idea is the most insane one so far. Mallory - Misty of Chincoteague - she figured the babies could act out her favourite book... which is about horses... all I can say is ;D Claudia - Babies from Space... that's all she had to say! Poor Jessi is always the one left out, when they asked Claudia, they said she had to say her idea because everyone else had given an opinion. Jessi would say they didn't ask her because she's black probably The whole situation with their shoe float was amusing. Orangey red float with baby pink outfits... good God :s Then Mal forgets to make costumes for the BSC members and Dawn's all like "I bet the babies are crying because their costumes look so stupid" which makes Mal burst into tears. Then they're all yelling at each other, insulting each other and then refusing to speak to each other at the parade, in a typical BSC fashion ;D Then typical Clauida spells the same sign wrong twice - "THEIR WAS AN OLD WOMMAN WHO LIVED IN A SHO" and "THAIR WAS AN OLD WOMMANN WHO LIVED IN A SHUE"... and they insist she doesn't have a learning disorder There are many more moments, but this is long as it is!

I think this book definitely improved on rereading as an adult. I loved the bitchiness. I also never quite figured out why Kristy had to be responsible for three babies. It seemed like there must have been a sitter who didn't have any to take care of.

God, wouldn't you love to know the reaction of the crowd upon reading Claudia's creative sign! And babies from space? WTF Claud? To me that just doesn't seem a likely suggestion from her. Stacey's idea really was insane. Mal's just cracks me up, and while MA's sounds dumb, it's also kinda cute that she wanted to put Tigger in it. I thought it was kind of nice that it was Mrs. Prezzioso who suggested they take the infant care course, and even offered to pay for it. And don't they all crush on the instructor, Don? The older guy with glasses?

I thought this book was stupid because I felt so embarressed for the girls! Hehe. With the shoe just looking like a brown orange thing and the babies all in pink. Haha! Looking back on it now it is kind of funny, actually.

I liked this book - maybe just because I love reading about babies and they all sounded so cute. As for the float ideas, I didn't really love any of them but Kristy and MA had the best - except I would have left Tigger OFF the float. I would actually leave Tigger right out of the books but that's another thread... I liked reading about Andrea P's costume and her mother's cracked me up. Hhhmm... now I'm inspired to think of my own ideas for a baby parade float.

Dawn's idea sounds kind of cool, actually. But seriously who the fk has ever heard of a baby parade anyway?! So stupid. I love when they're all fighting about the float though, classic BSC fight.

Oh and Mary Anne does her typical Mary Anne thing where she puts the attention on herself. She comes up with a sly idea of getting Tigger on the float and when Stacey tells her bluntly it's a baby parade not a pet show, Mary Anne "hung her head and sniffled. She cries so easily." Then Stacey's the one who has to say sorry! This happened in Claudia and the Middle School Mystery and a billion other books!

Heh, I actually liked Stacey's idea the best. I thought the NY skyline would've been cool.

Yeah I agree that the float of the skyline would have looked amazing for sure... it's just the idea of babies in tuxedos and evening gowns that alarms me :s

I actually think Dawn's would have worked, and very maybe Stacey's. I think for both, it's the incongruity which makes them cool and funny--more so than a nursery rhyme--and I think they're more visually interesting than the baseball one--although my hatred for almost all sports may make me biased.
For Dawn's, you don't actually put them ON surfboards (silly Dawn!), although you might make some baby-scale ones out of cardboard. I forget what season this takes place, but assuming it's warm, I think the best bet would be something involving a Hawaiian-style print, and definitely sunglasses, for as long as the babies will leave them on. And a portable tape deck playing the Beach Boys.
You can actually buy baby tuxedos (I don't think they rent them!), like for weddings and stuff, so maybe a client might have had one, or they could have scrounged up the money for two, and you could convey the idea of "evening gown" on a baby girl with a simple a-line dress pattern, which is easy to find--it's the kind of thing you use for flower girls. Especially for the older babies, like Emily Michelle, you might be able to do a little tiara or something, too. (If they were REALLY smart, they might even be able to get a store to sponsor them).
Of course, they seemed to invest way less financially in this than they did in some other projects--you can't be cheap in a baby parade! Just ask Mrs. Prezzioso! You have to SPARKLE!

But why would anyone think a parade full of babies dressed up in costumes was a good idea?
Oh and where did all the babies come from? Wouldn't it take an awful lot of babies? Clearly I have given far too much thought to this.

^I agree. To have a baby PARADE, you'd have to have lots of babies. I know the people in Stoneybrook reproduce like no other, but still. Also, the whole idea of a baby parade is just kinda creepy in general. I don't think babies are meant to be on display like that :/

Didn't she insist that anyone who was going to care for Andrea take the course, and Kristy decided everyone should go? Either way, Mrs. Prezzioso actually sounded like a smart parent. Unlike, say, Mrs. Newton who just kinda stopped calling the girls when she first had Lucy and didn't bother to explain why she might not want them sitting for a newborn.
Personally I liked Claudia's float idea best. It was so random. If Jessi had been given a choice you know she would have picked ballerinas.

Yeah, Mrs Prezzioso offered to pay for whoever would be sitting for Andrea, but I think it was actually Mary Anne who suggested they all take the course. And Mrs Newton didn't just abruptly stopped calling, did she? I thought she explained that she thought a newborn was too young to be left with a baby-sitter, so just took Lucy with her wherever she went... Or was that Mrs Perkins? And then when the baby reached 6 months, they called the BSC more. And heh, yeah, Jessi would've totally picked ballerinas.

I think Mrs Newton told them that she would feel more comfortable with an older sitter for awhile. But in the case of both Mrs Newton and Mrs Perkins it is much easier to take a baby with you than a baby plus it's older sibling(s).
Ballerina babies might have been cute.
