I thought it was sweet of Andrew to give Karen presents, even when she was being mean to him.

This is ANOTHER book example of when Karen gets huffy because Andrew "out shines" her.
There were several parts of this book that I enjoyed:
1. Karen getting the part of Ignorance (a boy) in the play.
2. When Karen thinks Nancy might have left her the present (pencils and candy canes) and waves the pencil in Nancy's face on the bus, Nancy says, "Be careful with that pointy pencil. This bus is bouncy. You could hurt someone."I thought that was a funny comment because I could just picture Nancy being like...wtf Karen...
3. The cute mystery presents AND the fact that Andrew sent them. How cute is he.
But what I don't get is why shy four-year old Andrew is suddenly an amazing actor.

I guess Andrew could be shy in person but with acting (on stage) he is not shy...

It's notable that the play even includes Ignorance and Want. That's a passage of the book that gets overlooked and omitted almost without exception.

To me this book makes up a tiny bit for the scene in an early BSC story where Andrew is supposed to be practicing his skating bear lines. All of you know Kristy is my favorite sitter but at that moment she was anything but. Karen was off sulking I think about Ricky and after just a few minutes and basically telling Andrew it was his job to be in his preschool play, Kristy went off to find Karen. So that Andrew has a very positive acting experience in this story and one that he chose to be involved with, brightened my night. I did think he was super sweet to Karen, too.

I guess Andrew could be shy in person but with acting (on stage) he is not shy... Shy people make excellent actors. Something about inhabiting other personas

This is one of my favorite Little Sister books because I always loved participating in community theater as a child and I like reading about Andrew and his part in the play. Like Andrew, I was a shy child but loved acting and public speaking. Andrew is such a sweet kid, I love the little surprises he gives to Karen.

^Jamie will always be my very favorite client but Andrew is endearing himself more to me. I also read this book over my Christmas in July weekend and loved it. I enjoyed reading about Andrew having a shining role and a little a part from Karen. We get to know him a little better. I also loved how at the end Karen realizes that her brother helped her regain her holiday spirit and thought that was super sweet. I was the opposite as a child, Scrounge in terms of acting and public speaking not the (very)shy part. I also liked that when Karen offered Pamela some of her surprise candy. Reminded me of their "truce" in "Karen's Candy" and with their secret costume.

Lisa must be some jewelry making savant. She had just learned how to make jewelry in Chicago, and she already got a job making/selling and teaching jewelry making. Claudia will have no trouble finding a job in Stoneybrook.
I enjoyed seeing Andrew blossom into this star thespian. He got applause from the whole room during his audition for goodness sake. I didn't love that Karen was judged solely based on reading lines that she first saw minutes beforehand. I suspect she had a bad singing voice, too. I did love that was she was a disheveled boy. Lol.
Can we talk about the fact that Karen and Pamela were stuck next to a teenage boy on stilts and nobody worried about him falling at all? I laughed out loud when Karen started whispering the guy's lines and got to the "touch my robe" line. Pamela shot back "I will not touch your robe, Karen Brewer!"

I'm very surprised they'd let a four year old in an adult play. Isn't he too young? He can read but just barely.
I feel sorry for him though. I mean he gets dragged off to Chicago (which still doesn't make sense to live in a place for just six months. It's fine if you don't have kids) because Lisa thought he was too young to be without his mother. Now just a couple of books later she decided to get a job because she thinks Andrew doesn't need her anymore. Poor Andrew!

All I was stating is that he is shy in person but not on stage. I wasn't saying that shy and introverted people cannot or don't act.
