Sweetvalleygirl,I think this is the one where Karen was doing odd jobs around the neighborhood in order to buy Lisa and Elizabeth Mother's Day gifts.

I liked reading about Karen walking the dogs. I thought it was sweet of her to give Watson a present on Mother's Day.

first time, reading this book. Karen's job was take her neighbor dogs for walk around their block. One chapter, she took all 5 of them. Cause, she was trying get back in time for an after school program @ Hannie's house. Which, she missed two times. Her mom & step mom was busy the day of Mother Day's party. So she ask Kristy, but Kristy was busy baby-sitting other kid/kids. So end up, her father went to Mother's Day party. Nice of Karen giving her hand paper mache.
Anyways, I can't see my 2nd 8 year old niece asking people to walk their dogs for them. My daughter (four legged) She pulls when, we/I walk with her. (Sometimes just Leia & I.) By time, we come back home, I'm exhausted from all that walk & so is she. But, Leia can keep walking for long time.

I really love this book, so sweet and funny, too. I think it (and Karen's Cowboy--Little House family) are wonderful end of series stories. This one has a place in my heart because I think all the Karen/Watson moments really show how much they love one another and that at heart Watson really is a great guy and dad. I love when he tells Karen to remember she can always come to him. I know somewhere I asked this once before (I forgot the answer) didn't the Hsu's have a different, younger dog? In this book, they have Duke, an aging retriever. Also, is this story Maggie, the Beagles (Kormans) one and only appearance? Maybe these are examples of one-time doggie characters. I felt for Karen when Maggie ran away. Champ took off once when he was very young and I remember being so scared. Thankfully, he was perfectly fine. Loved how Karen went right home and Watson and David Michael (so cool seeing the two of them spend time together) save the day by searching for (and finding) Maggie. The subplot was good, too. Loved reading about the new friendship between Hank and Karen and also he, Karen, and Natalie did seem to enjoy being a group. Humorous note, if you look on page 86, there is a picture of Ms. Colman holding her baby Jane. Is it just me or does Jane not quite look real? Sort of reminds me of Squirt on the cover of Jessi's Baby-sitter. Not very nice thing to say, I know, just something that jumped out at me and we know how often the illustrations of the kids in particular (thinking Island Adventure) can be quite "off." I did think it was very cool that Ms. Colman's mom and hubby came to the party. Is Mr. Colman (dad) still around? I haven't read "Karen's Wedding" in a long time. Anyway, a feel good story, that even had the clever and funny moment of Karen telling Kristy that maybe one day when she was older she (Karen) might start a dog-walkers club (like the BSC). I was surprised Kristy didn't immediately mention two certain Saint Bernard's shades of how Kristy was sure to remind Jessi of that when Jessi wanted to take the Mancusi job.

This was also a Mother's Day that was Big House month, but there was no drama in it. The kids were having brunch with Elizabeth and Nannie and then seeing Lisa later in the day. No dead flowers for Elizabeth this time.
Karen became the neighborhood dog walker. Multiple neighbors gave this little girl keys to their homes. She locked the Hsu's key inside of their home, but, have no fear because they had given the Brewers another set just to have. Wouldn't all these big rich houses have security systems with keypads and codes? Karen ended up walking five dogs. It sounded like she went around the block once with each one.
Hank's parents divorced. His mother left him and his siblings with their dad and moved to Florida. I was a bit surprised by that. Usually the moms are not portrayed like that.
The art project was creepy. A papier mâché hand. Just a little 7 year old hand. The hands were tiny, and then they had to draw pictures all over them. Karen drew a dog on each one of her itty bitty fingers. That couldn't have looked good.
My parents could never go to the class parties or events because of work, so that was realistic to me. I LOLed that Karen offered to pay Sam to come, and he was like, "I've got things to do...oh, ok I'll take money."
This book was all about money but actual amounts were never mentioned. My favorite parts are reading about the insane dollar amounts. Karen was consistently horrible with money.
