This book was pretty weird. Obviously, the idea that claudia was so far behind in eighth grade that she had to be moved back to seventh and did so well in seventh that she could move back to eighth was ridiculous enough, but then there were other strange elements.
1. Pretty much every boy in stoneybrook writes in capital letters. Mark jaffe, however, writes exactly like mary anne.
2. Josh rocker: "if mark won't do it, claudia, I will." This book is far more sexual than every other bsc book, outside of kristy plus bart equals ? (Silly blackberry keyboard.) Mark and claudia's attraction is decidedly not based on a meeting of the minds. Plus claudia gives him massages and stuff. Then she makes out with josh instead.
3. So in the color war, every grade picked a color. Sixth grade picked white and they all shout, "white is right!" Why jessi didn't stage a protest I'll never understand.
4. Weakest subplot ever. The bsc badly organize a color war for their charges. They fudge it so everyone wins. Yawn.
5. The ghostwriter? Peter lerangis, who else?

Yeah, I never could get into this Claudia arc. And the love triangle was lame.
omg. That's pretty funny. Can't believe I didn't pick up on that when I read this.

I never noticed the white thing! Was that Peter Lerangis trying to be subtle? Heh, heh.
I hate competitions where everyone wins. Lame.

1. Pretty much every boy in stoneybrook writes in capital letters. So does every kid in Stoneybrook of either gender under age eleven.

This book sucked. I just read it over the weekend. The subplot seemed so random and disconnected from the main plot. I mean there'd be a random chapter where they're kinda sorta doing a kids color war, but not really cause they can't get their s-hit in order. and Mark, seriously... that kid is a douche. I think Claudia has self-esteem issues. He treated her like crap and she constantly put up with it and made excuses for me and forgave him. Like she'd be mad for 5 minutes then be over it. I really do like Josh though.
I don't understand why this was such a big decision for Claudia, I thought it should've been obvious. Stacey was right, if Claud didn't go back to 8th grade, she'd ALWAYS be a year behind her friends. I think that should've made her decision right there.
The way they make such a big deal out of the maturity differences between a 7th and 8th grader is ridiculous. Puhhhleeease. Claudia's constantly like "well, I'm 13, so I'm a LOT more grown up than my 7th grade friends" or her 7th grade friends do something stupid and she's like "well, they ARE only 12." And has no 7th grader turned 13? And no 8th grader turned 14?

They always talk about how great and responsible they are!

Agree about Mark Jaffe...hated the dude. There's a part in Kristy and the Sister War where Kristy and Claudia go on a double date (Mark and friend) and they pick the girls up like an hour late and mostly ignore them on the date, and Claudia is alright with it.
Josh was obviously better, but I didn't think he was such a joker/goofball/great guy. I just found him kinda boring. He was Peter Lerangis-written, though, so he had that kind of Abby-like humor that could be amusing.

This book was okay. Was glad that Claud got rid of Mark but just can't see her with Josh. Even in this one, it seemed like she was going out with him because she felt obligated or something. I like Josh but not with Claudia. Hate Mark, though. Total jerk and I can't believe she puts up with him for as long as she does. Loved Kristy and Alan together and even though I didn't like the kids color war subplot, there were some funny parts - Jackie getting hit in the butt with the baseball and the Papadakis kids wearing their dress up (funeral ;D) clothes to name a few. Basically, these parts made the book okay because the main plot and the color war at school didn't interest me too much. Not one of my least favorites but not all that great.

The Kids' Colour War sub-plot was pretty boring, I found, but otherwise the book was all right. Agreed on the Mark Jaffe hate, he's incredibly under-developed, even for a BSC character. Josh is a cutie, but yeah - he and Claud don't seem like the best or most compatible couple.
But seriously - did anyone really think that Claudia would really stay behind in grade 7? It's pretty ridiculous that SMS would send her back to grade 7, then let her go back to grade 8 because her grades were improving. How, exactly, would that solve her problems? And would they send her back to grade 7 again if her grades started to slip? Peter Lerangis, sometimes you boggle my mind.
Oh, and the "White is right!" thing? Bwahahaha! Genius.

i hate the sitting subplots in which something huge is going on with the BSC at school or whatever, and the clients just HAVE to have their own version of whatever it is. like in jessi's prank. i don't remember what the skit/show/whatever was that the 6th grade was putting on, but then charlotte haley becca and vanessa have to put on their own. i can't think of any more right now.

I know the BSC is timeless and they are on in the same grade for the whole serie (but there is about 3 Christmas), but this book is number 113. They are in Novembre and it says they just started 8th grade. It's a bit late in the serie to put Claudia back!

I actually REALLY enjoyed this book. The 12 year olds acted like 12 year olds. I thought the humor was funny, but since when did Claudia become a comedian? She has always had a funny side, but...I dunno. I really dislike Mark, he was a jerk, and I actually really liked Josh-with Claudia. He seemed like such a sweet person, who was good at listening.

I thought it was an OK book. I like the plot, and I didn't even know that I own the book! I don't remember buying it.

I liked this book, total word about Mark being a douche. Josh was an exact replica of my best friend from high school, right down to having the same name and being in love with me. Maybe that's why I like this book because it takes me back to that time Anyway, I never understood why the color war wouldn't be using the school colors, and like the 6th and 7th grades would have picked white and orange? Come on it would be green, red, and blue all the way.
