Most accomplished science student at the community college award? Did they just make that up?? And why would it be such a big deal?
Claudia was pretty dumb, as usual, but this was a fairly enjoyable read. I liked the Emily Michelle stuff. She does sound pretty cute. Claudia would be the one to teach remedial colors.
I can't believe she actually called all those people and went to the bank and stuff. And people say she's lazy.

^ My high school had a most distinguished-young-scientist award for only high schoolers. I know about that because there was this annoying guy who won it. It was broadcast in the newspaper. And he couldn't stop bragging. If it did turn out that Claudia was right I would have been wtf. Although a lot of her cockamanie ideas do turn out to be right - such as in the mysteries.

Despite the constant reminders that Claudia is smart and just doesn't "apply herself" there's nothing remotely lazy about Claud. She busts her ass and is still hopeless - there are plenty of examples. I think her parents use the laziness excuse because they're ashamed of having such an academic failure as their daughter.
However, word on the whole contacting random strangers and the bank. She definitely had nerve, no doubt about it.

i just thought it was funny how Claudia automatically assumed that she was adopted just because she didnt look like her family or wasnt as smart and also because the safety deposit box was locked. jumping to conclusions much?? hahaha
i felt sorry for emily michelle. she seemed so cute. and i loved how claudia assumed (AGAIN) that she had found her birth mother just because she rang the other two phone numbers and couldnt get thru or whatever. hmmmmmmm

I felt bad for Claudia in this one. She spent the whole book being sad and nervous and her parents didn't notice at all. I could sympathize too because I'm also the youngest in my family and have about a third as many baby pictures as my older siblings. Not that I'm bitter or anything...

^Of course not! I never really noticed if there was a drop off of pictures in my family. Don't really like pictures of myself anyway.
What happened to the picture of Mimi holding Claudia when they brought her home that was in her portrait book?
It was kind of funny how she compared herself to Emily. Emily doesn't look anything like her family! They're white and she's Vietnamese! I don't look anything like my family! They're Japanese, so I must be part white but not look like it! Yeah, that's it!
Hah, yeah. She didn't answer the phone...she must be my mother!

That's a pretty advanced thought process for someone who can barely spell her own name.

I hated the way Claudia made the comment that at least Emily Michelle had adoptive parents who would be honest with her. Um, wouldn't the fact that Emily was Vietnamese and the rest of the family were white kind of give it away, no matter what Elizabeth and Watson's intentions were?

Seriously, I really can't stand Claudia. She is such a tool. She jumps to the craziest conclusions "OMG I was adopted!" and freaking goes nuts about it.

^ At least it got her to read a book completely through on her own that wasn't a Nancy Drew?

^ Considering I'm 24 and still read the BSC, I'm somewhat reluctant to criticize Claud's Nancy Drew love ;D

^ Oh I'm also way past the target age and still read the BSC. Yeah, I shouldn't criticize her love of Nancy Drew. Heck, I still read Goosebumps, and they aren't any better!

^ I never got into Goosebumps actually, but I used to like R L Stine's earlier stuff.

I loved all the stuff with Emily Michelle. It was so cute when Janine gave her the balloon.

Except in The Mystery at Claudia's House, where it was blatantly obvious that Janine had a boyfriend, but apparently the idea that she's a drug dealer or a sppy is more believable. *eyeroll*
