AARRGGHHH... I just wanted to SMACK Claudia! How come she couldn't see what a pain in the ass she was being? What an obnoxious little know-it-all... and when Peaches seemed irritated, it MUST'VE been because of post-partum depression, Claudia had "seen clients go through it"... yeah, sure she had. Also, is it normal to race to the hospital as soon as you get a call that a relative has gone into labor and then pace around for hours until the baby is born? Don't you normally wait for the phone call when the baby has actually arrived? Also the Melissa-in-Philadelphia subplot. What typical 13 yr old bitchiness. How dare a non-BSC member want to hang out with Claudia! Points for realism, however. The Marilyn and Carolyn subplot. Boring and unnecessary. Why was it included? We already had a subplot.

I actually liked this one, though agree on lots of your points - especially about Claudia being an obnoxious (and clueless) know-it-all. I think it reminded me of when my little cousins were born (I was ten with the first one and wanted to camp out at the hospital but Mom convinced me to wait for the call I did camp out at the hospital the whole day after the baby was born but my aunt wanted me and my mom there - especially since her husband went to a basketball game (he was the varsity coach) the first night with the oldest. Again, I think I just liked this book because it brought back good memories and I always love reading about babies. I want to go to Philadelphia, too, so that was fun to read about.

I can understand being excited that a new baby would be arriving soon and WANTING to camp out, but normally you wouldn't do it unless it was requested (like your aunt). Also, once the baby has arrived, that's a different story ... but camping out while a relative is in labor? Labor is stressful enough without the added pressures of impatient family members! I like reading about babies as well (love 'em to bits!) but it was Claudia that was intolerable in this book. Janine is very good natured - the baby had Claudia's middle name and Janine said she understood because of Claudia's relationship with Peaches. Claudia also had a special relationship with Mimi which Janine was never bitter about either.

Claudia's parents should have told her point blank to stop going over so much. If I were Russ and Peaches I'd be hiding inside with all the lights out every day. HONESTLY though. Had Claudia ever even sat for a newborn? That we know of? I know they had to wait a few months before they could watch Lucy Newton. Claudia needs to stfu. And learn how to use a coffee maker.

I think this is the only bsc book I have that I haven't read all the way. I tried, but I just knew that Claudia was going to be really annoying. But I'm sure when I read it, I'll find something good about it.

Claudia's parents should have told her point blank to stop going over so much. ITA If I was Peaches, I'd have called Mrs Kishi and told her to ask Claudia to stop coming over so much. Very diplomatically, of course. I dunno, did they ever watch Laura Perkins or Andrea Prezzioso as newborns?

I think Kristy might have looked after Andrea when Andrea was fairly young - isn't that why Mrs Prezzioso wanted the sitter to take the baby care course? She would've been at least a few months old, though - definitely not newborn.
My favourite bit of this book is the snack that Logan eats when he sits for the Arnolds. The pound cake and grapes. There I go again with the food...

I think because Claudia has such a good relationship with her aunt it doesn't occur to her that she is bothering them. But then again Claudia isn't always particularly observant.
I think that the BSC did occasionally sit for newborns, didn't they sit for Lucy Newton too? But its different when it is your new cousin.
Personally I think Janine would have been a better godmother.

The whole favouritism to Claudia over Janine shown by relatives needs to stop. Why couldn't Lynn in have both Claudia and Janine's middle names?

The whole favouritism to Claudia over Janine shown by relatives needs to stop. Maybe extended family feel sorry for Claudia because they know how much the Kishi parents favor Janine and are trying to make up for it?

Or maybe they feel sorry for Claudia because she's not too observant (nice way of saying not too quick on the uptake) Oh...but that doesn't matter because she's an incredibly talented artist. Totally agree about the favoritism by other relatives.

I haven't read this one in a long time. The only thing I can remmeber is whenever I was reading it and my mom saw the cover, she was like "Claudia had a baby!!!!!"

Wouldn't that be a twist - perfect Janine the Genius, knocked up at 16!!

I just finished reading this. I actually liked it, shocking considering it's a Claudia book. I love reading about babies and I loved reading about how excited Claudia was about the baby arriving. It was cute. Her lists were funny too, "Things to buy Lynn", "Things to make Lynn", "Things to do with Lynn". I also laughed when she made the Welcome, Home Lynn banner then cut out the comma and put it in the correct place, stepped back to look at the banner and decided it was "hideous." lol. And Janine's like "Who's Home Lynn?" hahaha. Oh Janine.
Anyway, Claud WAS totally overbearing and I felt bad for Peaches and Russ because they were trying to be nice but geesh Claudia, take a friggin hint. Oh, also, why is Lynn wearing a SCRUNCHIE on the cover?! WTF? She's like 4 days old!
The Philadelphia thing was random and I thought kind of stupid. It came out of nowhere. They mention it at the beginning (along with Melissa) then not for like, 15 chapters and suddenly Melissa appears and I'd forgotten all about her. lol at her being like "I wanted to hang out with you guys because you're cool!"
And the Arnolds... whatever... those girls are annoying.
