Again, surprised that there wasn't a thread for a book I know we've discussed on here. I think this is in my top 20 favorites, though I’m not sure why. I love Kristy and Watson’s relationship and seeing them bond. I’m glad she let him share her baseball interest instead of treating it like her “dad’s territory.” I really felt for Watson with Bill Bain being such a jerk and could relate to Kristy’s feelings of inadequacy at being made second string. I’m a perfectionist and this would have killed me! I’m glad she learned that she might not have been the best player but was a really good coach and organizer (a little unrealistic and overbearing that she took charge so much at the camp but it didn’t really bother me that much). I liked how she helped Vicki. I didn’t care much for the subplot because I don’t like David Michael but it did have a good meaning behind it. Made me think of the few baseball cards I own – special ones my uncle gave me (he is a HUGE collector and even goes to shows and sells on ebay so let me know if you’re ever looking for cards and ones that my gym teacher signed (he was a minor league pitcher for a few years). I still enjoy looking at them from time to time and probably will never sell them, even if they would actually be worth something (but ask me again when I’m in more of a “greedy guts” mood ;D) I thought this book had a really good meaning and it kind of helped me with my own feelings of inadequacy/perfectionism that I struggle with. I needed this boost when I read it

^ All the food in this one sounded good. I guess I might need to read it soon ;D I like this one, anyway. Always enjoy reading about Kristy and Watson's relationship and this one always touches me as far as that is concerned. I need something happy to read after reading the depressing Fire at MA's House last night....

^ Seeing this thread got me thinking again about how good the food was! That's what made me think there was already a discussion going about this book, but I might be thinking of when we discussed it in the food thread. I didn't really expect to like this one much when I first read it, but I really did. I enjoyed all the minor character (coaches, other people at camp) more than I usually do in BSC books. I would rather read about the main characters than a bunch of people that are never going to show up again. It was different with this one, though. I especially liked that girl that Kristy befriended that wasn't all that into baseball, but was there because her dad loved it. What was her name?

^ Vicki. I really liked reading about her and Kristy's friendship, too. I agree that it's better when the minor characters are likeable and they were for me in this one, too. I was glad that Kristy managed to help Vicki and at the same time, it kind of helped her. Another example of how teaching someone can really give a sense of self-confidence.

^I can definitely see Kristy being one of those teachers who's known among the students for being sort of tough an no-nonsense, but who really cares about her students.

I just read this book for the first time last night, (while babysitting) and I absolutely loved it. I liked seeing Kristy and Watson's relationship and I could imagine Watson's disappointment. I thought they did a very good job showing the emotions in this book. I liked Abby's way of handling David Michaels issue, but most of the other books sub-plots are not so closely related to the main plot, and there are more than one kid they sit for. I thought it was kind of weird that of all four kids they could sit for, Emily Michelle, Karen, and Andrew were always busy. Other than that, I loved Kristy meeting Vicki and taking charge and her not being 'perfect' at baseball...etc.

^ He got ripped off in some baseball card deals and Abby helped him show the kids that it wasn't the value of the card in price that was important but the sentimental value. She showed a card (I think or maybe just told about it) that her dad had given her or something like that and I thought it was really sweet.

I got this book when my family and I went to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York for a vacation a few summers back (I think I was eleven or twelve). I'd found it in their gift shop and was overjoyed, because BSC books were dying out in the bookstores by then. The book itself was pretty boring because I'm not a fan of baseball (we only went to the hall of fame because my dad, who's a baseball fan, dragged me and my mom lol) but the food sounded good. I was craving all of the food they described for the rest of our vacation lol ;D.

I thought this was one of my favorite Kristy books. I always wanted to go to Softball Camp. That would be fun, since I am a huge fan of baseball/softball. I didn't like how that famous baseball player was treating the campers. I was glad Kristy stood up to him in the end.

I thought Kristy helping organize the camp and standing up to Bill Bain was pretty unrealistic, especially at the end when Bain turned around and became a great guy again *gag gag*
I did like the David Michael subplot and how Abby handled it.
