I just finished reading this one, it was better than I expected. Claudia definitely seemed remarkably dedicated to her schoolwork for a lazy kid, though. And it was a good thing that Peaches was able to work from home in the end, because her "crazy" antics seemed to stem more from boredom than anything else. A very un-BSC moment when she claimed to have quit her job in order to devote herself to motherhood! Wow! Ann, are you sure you review these ghostwritten books properly? I felt sorry for Claud as this is the second time that she's gone off at a family member and something bad has happened before she can apologize. Also, a big at the Natalie Springer subplot. Who would've thought 13 yr old babysitters could become expert child psychologists/social workers? Do most casual babysitters become SO involved in the children's lives?

i thought it was so sad when peaches had the miscarriage. but it was obvious it was coming just from the blurb on the back on the book. i felt sorry for claudia too, cos she thought it was her fault, also like the time where she thought she made mimi have a stroke.
and remember natalie springer and her love of peanut butter, mayonnaise banana sandwhiches or whatever they were, ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.
yeah, this book was pretty ok, one of the better ones.

Oh yeah, that peanut butter/mayo/banana sandwich sounded so revolting! Gross! And these are the girls that EW at the mere mention of insulin injections!

I also liked this book. The only thing I didn't like is how Peaches became pregnant again so soon, which was in Claudia and the World's Cutest Baby (book 97). Claudia and Crazy Peaches is book 78. I liked Natalie Springer, with those crooked glasses and always having to pull up her socks. Why couldn't her parents find socks that fit her? I was sort of creeped out to hear that she knows who are friends with each other. I would feel nervous too if I knew one of my classmates was scouting people out like that.

The sock thing, I always imagined her as a tall but scrawny kid... maybe in order to find socks to fit her feet, her parents had to buy the bigger size which then fell down around her bony ankles constantly? Who knows. Ugh, way to make the kid seem awkward and ungainly.
I didn't find her "scouting" ways too creepy, to me it just seemed as if she didn't feel comfortable pushing herself on already established "best friends". Nevertheless, she was a very weird kid in general.

I had forgotten that Natalie was in this one. I will have to reread as I like Natalie in the BSC little sister books. One of the things that I like about Karen is that she tries to be nice to Natalie. For all of Karen's faults, she's not a mean little girl. I do remember feeling really bad for Peaches and being able to relate to Claud since my favorite "cool" aunt had many miscarriages. Unfortunately, our relationship changed a lot after she did manage to get pregnant and have two kids. I wish the BSC books would have addressed something similar with Claudia. Maybe they did in another book???

Thanks. This is horrible to say because I do love both of my cousins very much but I think she was actually happier when she didn't have kids. I think some people are not meant to be mothers - my aunt and I are examples. I think Peaches was probably cut out for motherhood though. I would have liked more books about her and Lynn in the BSC series.

At least you recognise this now, before the damage has been done, so to speak.
I'm also sure Peaches would've been a great mother, but her relationship with Claud would definitely have changed once Lynn came along. It's just the way things are.

I think not wanting to be a mom (I'm far too selfish ;D) but liking kids pretty well (in very limited doses when you can give them back to their parents) is why I like the baby-sitting chapters of the BSC books. It's fun to read about the world's cutest baby and pretend you are sitting for her instead of actually having to take care of her. When Lynn starts crying you can put "her" (the book) down and leave the room. ;D

^ ha, that would certainly come in handy. I never appreciated the whole "give them back at the end of the day" ... until that was no longer an option!! ;D

I wasn't surprised by the miscarriage after they were going all out when she was just 2 months pregnant. What exactly was she planning on doing with all her time off when she basically bought everything they needed in one day?
There sure are a lot of short notice moves in Stoneybrook. You'd think the Kishis would have been more productive helping Russ and Peaches pack up an entire house in one week rather than just cleaning out their own den.
Random stuff I think about...why exactly did they have an entire gallon of milk on the day of their move? And what did they do with it?
Natalie Springer...I got the impression she went to school with Karen. But she knows a lot about some SES kids as well even though she doesn't play with any of them? They already had the plotline of a kid depending too much on their babysitter, and they let it happen again here?
How sad is it that a 7 year old spells better than Claudia? I wonder what the Springers thought when they saw the friendship chart. "Oh, did one of your new little friends help you?" Although I'm not sure seven year olds can even read cursive yet. What a big help Claudia is.

That was incredibly weird to me. Most pregnant women would at least wait until the third month (where the risk of miscarriage drops to below 1%) before they started going "all out". Those early weeks are always a bit precarious (sp)

I guess she was just excited... They learnt the next time, though. When Peaches was pregnant with Lynn, they waited until she was about 6 months along before telling anyone, I think.

Was Natalie's friendship with Becca and Charlotte ever mentioned again?
