Another book featuring the infamous Danielle... It was better than Jessi's Wish, but still not exactly a masterpiece. Although I have to say, even I was surprised at Danielle's final stunt. I thought Jessi would be in trouble though, for not providing adequate supervision (granted she was taking care of the other kid, but still) ... it seems strange that all the adults would've just patted her on the back and congratulated her for being so responsible. As for the Aunt C Wedding subplot... can we say predictable?!

I was never unfortunate enough to get my hands on Jessi's Wish, but I do remember this one. Pretty awful; the only thing that sticks out much in my mind is Danielle's 'car trip' along with a couple of her other circus acts, and as you mentioned, Aunt Cecilia's crappy wedding subplot. I think it would be very amusing if the wedding actually did occur, anything to diverge us from the dull, typically Jessi plot. But Jesus, what eleven-year-old assumes something like that? (That is, all the 'hinting'). Pretty random, too. Oh, and I know this book came out a bit late, but has anyone else wished they'd tried the pool thing? Just wondering.

I really didn't like this book... It's so suspenseful! I keep waiting for something to go horribly wrong, and even though I've read and reread it and I know the plot, the nagging feeling of "something bad will happen!!" is still there. And I hate that feeling.
The subplot was pretty funny, though.

I remember how, as a kid, I was disappointed when Danielle didn't die at the end of Jessi's Wish.
I've never read this book - what's the subplot?

I only read this book once, when it was first published, and it's one of the very few that I don't remember at all. It is one of the books I have here at my apartment, rather than at my parents' house, so I guess I can remedy that any time I feel like it, though.

I just reread this one and didn't care much for it. Didn't care one way or the other about Danielle - of course I haven't read Jessi's Wish so maybe that would make a difference. I thought some of the stunts she pulled were really stupid and just that she was "happy to be alive" didn't give me enough of an explanation for them. As for the subplot, I don't have any idea why Jessi assumed that Aunt C was getting married. Becca....I could maybe see that since she's only 8 but we are always being reminded how super mature Jessi is. I still don't get how she jumped to such a conclusion. About Aunt C getting married, I never even considered it I guess because I almost see her as being - how shall I put this?.... not interested in men. Don't know how I got that impression. This book did give me a little more of a positive attitude towards her by making her seem softer and more human - especially the beginning with Squirt.

Haha, well Aunt C was pretty masculine and butch-like, if you think about it. Not exactly nurturing, soft and feminine. Not meaning to stereotype or anything. But Aunt C's hubby was dead, IIRC. Isn't that why she wanted to move in with the Ramseys, because her house had too many memories? So I take it she's straight.

I forgot she was married. I'm stereotyping with thinking she wasn't straight but she just seems so.... I don't know exactly how to describe her. Cold maybe. Glad I don't have an aunt like her - especially one who lives with me. I'll take Aunt Peaches any day.

Well, Aunt C was pretty conservative. Maybe she was merely in the closet? She and hubby didn't seem to have any kids ;D
But I agree, she was awful. Hilarious to read about, but I certainly wouldn't want her in my house permanently. Poor Jessi. Black AND Cecelia's neice.

Just read this for the first time. I can't believe that Charlotte, Becca, Haley, and Vanessa would ALL go along with Danielle's stupid activities. I mean the "pool" in the shower? WTF? I like how Kristy was like "and how were you planning on turning the water off once it was full?" (cause they would've had to open the shower door to do so, thus letting out all the water) and the girls are like der.. uh... lol. Also Danielle's parents were super annoying when Kristy actually called to let them know what their weird little daughter was up to. I mean at least go TELL her not to use the shower as a pool or something! The Aunt Cecilia subplot was dumb and totally predictable. Why would even their parents keep a wedding a secret? I mean what if Jessi had scheduled a sitting job for that day or something? Then what at 10am her parents would be like "ooh Jessi no!! We have a surprise wedding to go to! Cancel your plans!"?! Kristy would give her a MAJOR Look for that!

At least after this one we didn't have to tolerate a Jessi book for, like, 20 books. The part I liked most in this book is that it actually had some contunuality leading up to the next book...Stacey not rocking up for a meeting, and palming off her sitting jobs at the last minute...She was a brave woman missing that meeting...Imagine the look Kristy woulda given her next time she saw her, given the look she gives is someone's 3 seconds late

Well, Aunt C was pretty conservative. Maybe she was merely in the closet? She and hubby didn't seem to have any kids ;D Aunt Cecelia does have a kid, actually. She has a son who is married and lives in New York City. I think his name is Michael. Jessi stays with them in #115 Jessi's Big Break when she is at that Dance New York program. Although I've got a copy of #115 here, my room's kind of messy at the moment and there's a lot of crap in front of the shelf it's on, so someone other than me might want to confirm his name. I keep thinking that his wife is named Marion, but I might just be crazy.

Yup, her name is Marian. There was some tension between her and Aunt C in that book.
