Hmmm...
Another later book that leaves much to be desired... haha, and Charlie needs a LIFE! Spending his vacation helping to coach the Krusher Klinic. It was explained away - he wanted to spend more time with the family before college, yada yada - but still. Doesn't he have anything better to do?
Also, what was so bad about Angelica, really (until the finale, that is, but Kristy hated her long before that)? Other than the fact that she - are you ready for this? - smoked?!?! I don't blame Charlie being furious at Kristy's ludicruous efforts to sabotage their relationship. I felt like slapping the little pain-in-the-ass plenty of times myself.
Also, what's happened to the Perkins kids? Not only do they NEVER feature in later books, they're no longer in the Krushers!
Funniest line? When Kristy asked the police to drop her and Claudia off at the concert and the police made some sarcastic remark about contacting their chauffuer (sp?)

I really like this book for some reason.
I didn't notice that about the Perkins girls. Can anyone find the last time they're mentioned? It's strange, considering they were pretty important in the earlier books. I guess the other kids who figured prominently had a special relationship with one of the sitters, either through blood or just closeness--i.e., Charlotte, the Pikes.

I JUST reread this one a few days back, and I have to say that I too was puzzled at exactly why Kristy had such a problem with Angelica. She didn't really do anything except flirt with Charlie, until the whole car thing. Kristy disliked her even before the smoking happened.

Weren't they based on some real-life kids Ann knew? Like neices or something? Maybe there was a falling out with the parents and Ann didn't want to include the Perkins kids in the series anymore? They disappear so abruptly.

They were the daughters of her best friend, Beth Perkins. And I always thought they kind of faded away in later books because the majority of those were being ghostwritten. In early books AMM always gave a lot of attention to the special or favorite charges of the sitters, like the Perkinses, Charlotte, Jamie and Lucy, etc. Funny thing I noticed when I was skimming through Claudia and the Great Search the other day, which features a Perkins sitting job where Stacey sits and they make green cookies -- Stacey's looking at the bookshelf because "a friend of the Perkins who's an editor at a publishing company is always sending the girls books." That's probably Ann herself and she threw that in because there were no ghostwriters for that one and that was her old job. Anyway, back on topic...I didn't mind this book too much because we get some insight on Charlie besides his chauffeur skills. I think Kristy made a stink over Angelica in the beginning because she was expecting Charlie to devote his full attention to the Krushers Clinic. He was like, playing on a swingset when Kristy thought he was coaching the kids. And I always thought it truly sucked that they missed a concert she got free tickets to because Charlie couldn't insist on driving...

I read for the first time in a while and liked it pretty well. Could really relate to being a kid and "interfering" in an older kid's love life - often with the same negative results as Kristy. (Even though I didn't have siblings, I had many "surrogate siblings" at the horse shows). I really liked how Charlie was so good with the Krushers at the beginning and thought he was pretty much a jerk to poor Sarah, who I liked. Not sure exactly why Kristy hated Angelica so much (though I kind of understand it - it doesn't have to make sense, it was just the way she felt - maybe like Angelica was butting in on her relationship with Charlie while Sarah included her) but I couldn't stand Angelica either. I really enjoyed Kristy and Charlie's talks and the focus on their relationship and the way they compared Charlie to their dad really gave a lot of insight into their personalities and lives. I think this book was great for this. I also always like reading about the Krushers and am really in a "baseball" mood right now. The one thing that annoyed me was Ann's note at the back was all about spring break and her vacations and seemed to have no pertinance to the plot. There were so many better things she could have written about.

I liked this book a lot, not one of my favorites but I thought it was really well done. I liked how it provided us with a closer look at the relationship between Charlie and Kristy. I understand why Kristy hated Angelica so much, even though she didn't have many reasons to back it, I still understand it.

I noticed that Charlie hangs out with "Travis" in this one. Is this Travis from Dawn and the Older Boy? Wasn't he friends with Sam and Charlie in that one? I really liked Charlie in this book but was a little disappointed in him a few times. Still, I loved watching him interact with the Krushers and reading about how they adored him.

I definitely think it's travis from dawn and the older boy.
Angelica looks like she's posing for maxim on the cover of this one.

Am rereading this one right now and it is bugging me how Kristy keeps calling it the “Klinic” with a K. I don’t mean to be a “Karen” with spelling ;D and the name Krushers doesn’t bother me that much because it’s kind of a cute kids name, but I usually can’t stand it when people spell C words with Ks. Anyway, I really like Charlie and Kristy’s relationship in this one and enjoy reading about how the little kids idolize Charlie. It reminds me of how I used to love being around the much older kids at the horse shows. Is Sarah mentioned in any books other than Kristy + Bart (weren’t her and Charlie making out in that one?)? She seems really nice.

Oh man, this one was so snoozers for me. I even hated the subplot, and I usually count on those to save me from a boring main plot.

I loved this one because it reminds me of how protective I am of my own older brother. I tend to judge girls before I care to know them.

^ Agree. Even though I don't have any older brothers, I was even protective of the older boys at the horse shows who were my "big brothers". I really enjoyed reading about Kristy and Charlie's relationship. I know Kristy was judging Angelica too harshly but Angelica was.... something. I really couldn't stand her. Her note at the end took some nerve. I felt this book gave me more insight into what Charlie had to deal with when his dad left. It reminded me of some friends who were about the same age when their dad left and the older brother - just like Charlie - kind of felt the responsiblity of being "man of the house". He grew up into a really mature, great guy and I can see Charlie doing the same. Something I found funny in this book was Claudia on the way to the concert. It made me laugh when Charlie slammed on the brakes at the stop sign and she said "ride 'em cowboy" ;D

Haha! I always thought Claudia was kind of a ditz in her scenes in this one. I want to re-read it now.
