Is there not a thread for this? I looked through all 11 pages and didn't see one, but it's possible I missed it. Anyway, if there is one, can someone link me and then feel free to ignore this Otherwise, what are your thoughts on this book? I'm reading it right now (okay, I've only read the first chapter so far, lol). I have to say I LOVE the cover!! I think it's def one of the cutest BSC covers Dawn looks adorable and Jeff looks cute too!

I love this book. It's one of my favorites in the series. I love how close Dawn is to Jeff and her dad in this one. I agree sotypical. The cover is one of the best. It makes Dawn and Jeff look like they're having a blast. It always makes me want to go to the beach.

I thought there was a thread for it because I remember posting on it (I think) last week but maybe not. I love the part in this one where they go to Disneyland and like it pretty well. I'll look for the thread.

^Now I really need to reread the Clover and Daffodil part in this book to see if my impression of them changes Looks like you're right, sotypical - I can't find the thread either. I could have sworn I posted on this book a few days ago, but that's just more proof I'm losing my mind the last few days ;D My brief thoughts on the book, I think it's one of my favorite Dawn in CA books because I like the "old Dawn" best. Love the Disneyland part (as I said) and don't even mind Jeff too much. Is this the book Carol is kind of introduced in? I can't remember now.

I'm still reading this one, but I love when Dawn is flying to CA, the things that happen on the plane are pretty funny with the flight attendant ignoring her and her seatmate helping her out, it's cute. Dawn says in this book she isn't a strict vegetarian but that she orders the veg meal on the plane cause they're always better. So weird. She gets stuck with a regular meal, but doesn't eat the meat.

I like this book, too! A lot I really like Dawn-in-California in this one. (in some books... not so much ) I also agree about the cover! It's really cute And aln, I don't tnink you're losing your mind, I remember discussing this book somewhere else, too! Maybe in the California Girls thread or something? A lot of California threads have been popping up lately so we must've talked about it somewhere, or we're both going crazy ;D

So I'm almost done with this one and there are a LOT of food descriptions in here that some of you might like (those of you that like reading about the food!) I didn't particularly care for them as I wouldn't have eaten any of it (Dawn sure does eat a lot of fish in this book!), usually I like Dawn books for the food descriptions - but only when she has decided that she'll actually be vegetarian for that book, lol.
Tons of CA stereotyping in this book. On Dawn's list of pros and cons about CA and CT, "healthy food" is listed under CA. WTF? They don't have healthy food available anywhere in CT?! Another thing I noticed in this book is how once again, Dawn doesn't miss her friends back home at ALL! Geesh, I wonder if she even likes those girls sometimes.
Oh, her dad's house sounds gorgeous!! It's very spacious and sounds really bright and clean (with skylights in "almost every room!"). Man sucks to go from that to a friggin' farmhouse. I suppose a farmhouse would have a certain charm to it, but her CA house sounds SO nice! What does her dad do for a job, anyway? Anyone know?

Now I KNOW there was a thread for this one I remember writing about the food - the fish dinner sounded good. Was Carol introduced in this book? I don't remember her being mentioned before and can't remember how she is introduced. Does Jack just spring her on Dawn? For some reason, that is what I was thinking but I'm not sure.

I don't think that Carol was introduced in this book. But I really liked the part about Disneyland, but Dawn makes it sound like you can only be a little kid to go there. I've probably been there about the same numbers of time as Dawn has, but each time I go there, it is still exciting and really cool. And she acts like only tourists do all the stuff that she did in this book, but I know for a fact that practically anyone would like to do the stuff she did.
There is way too much stereotyping. A big portion of the population in CA isn't vegetarian. They are regular people who happen to live in this state, but I hate that in these books they are written like they are better than everybody else just because they live in CA. The same thing for New York. These are some of the only flaws I can see with these books.

^swinginmonkey is right, there's no mention of Carol in this book. I actually just finished it right now and gosh I forgot how much I love this book! It is def one of my favorites, I think. Dawn makes California sound freaking amazing. I've been to CA plenty of times, but reading a Dawn in CA book makes me feel like I've never been there and am missing out! I thought Jeff was pretty cute in this book, even though normally I don't like him. I liked how at the end he took Dawn's picture and then gave her an "awkward wave" rather than a hug or something. I think Sharon was really pretty cool in this book. When Dawn confessed she'd been thinking about staying, Sharon was fine with it and told her that if Dawn wanted to do that, they could discuss it (even though Dawn had already made up her mind). The W<3KC sounds fun, I love their recipe card thing and the Kids Can Cook... Naturally cookbook!

I also liked reading about the We Love Kids Club in this book. It was a nice change of pace from Kristy and her Looks. And as you can see from my icon, I also love the cover. This is how I always picture Dawn. She looks so cute!

The same thing for New York. These are some of the only flaws I can see with these books. Agree, swinginmonkey, on both points. I'm 24 and have only been to Disneyland twice but this book always makes me really want to go back. It also bugged me how the Schafers only get to go on about 7 things and make a big deal of having to chose between Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion - they obviously didn't get in to the park early enough and didn't know how to "do things" to get on everything Also agree about the stereotyping but try to overlook it since it is so common in almost all books, especially kids series. It does bug me sometimes more than others, though, and Dawn's CA friends are one example that always irritates me.

I loved the house descriptions in this book! Dawn’s house in California sounds really cool. The Schafers have the coolest taste in houses. Skylights, barns with secret passageways? Both houses sound really cool.
I liked the book though. It was cool see what Dawn's California life was like.
