Recently, I got a copy of Karen's unicorn. It was a cute book. Did anyone else read it? I loved how the unicorn was named Bob, but he had a "secret unicorn name", and Karen kept making wishes to him.

It had the same name as Andrew's hermit crab? Not very original, there, Ann.

I thought it was a cute book too, even though it wasn't one of my top favorites. I liked how Karen believed in the unicorn and I honestly was quite surprised when her friends thought she was weird for believing in unicorns when they weren't real. I mean that's true, but I found it odd that nobody else other than Karen was excited about seeing the unicorn, jmo.

I liked how Karen kept believing in the unicorn. I'm surprised that none of her friends believed in one. I would've thought that at least one of her friends believed in it. I liked reading about how Andrew tried to ride a two-wheeled bike.

Bob is such an overused name for an animal. First, Bob the kitten from Karen's Kitten, then Andrew's crab Bob, and now Bob the unicorn. What gives?!

I have this book, but haven't read it yet. I thought it would be ridiculous. Glad to hear it's cute. I'll give it a read soon.

Five years ago, Sweetvalleygirl said: I never thought about that until reading this thread just now. It also seemed like none of the other KIMCC were all that excited about going to the circus. I'm not a circus fan now but as a kid I probably would have loved having a field trip to one. I did love the scene when Karen confides in Ms. Colman about Bob and asks her teacher for her opinion and Ms. Colman shares her thoughts but reminds Karen that she needs to decide for herself. Moments like that endeared Ms. C to me. I do enjoy the idea of unicorns maybe because it reminds me of She-Ra and her flying companion Swift Wind. I much preferred He-Man growing up but the idea of a flying magical horse was and is so very cool. The sub-plot of Andrew learning to ride a two-wheeler was so much better and you all know Jamie is my favorite charge than when poor Jamie Newton tried the same thing in "Kristy for President." It was very cool seeing Andrew have a shining moment two and Karen was a good big sister to him. The only thing that jumped out at me this re-read was Andrew was practicing on Karen's old bike. Karen makes a point a couple times of telling is that even though her mom or Seth lowered the seat and handlebars as far as possible for Andrew, the bike was still way too big for him. Andrew was wearing protective helmet and pads (which was great) but he was riding an un-safe (too big) bike? How does that make sense? Even at the end of the book when Andrew does successfully ride the bike and Lisa and Seth are told about it, there is zero mention of getting Andrew his own appropriate sized and also for a boy, bike. I thought that was odd and should have been written better. Otherwise, this is one of my favorite LS, definitely as others have said, a cute story and I loved that it also had some extra littler moments such as Watson calling to offer circus tickets to the Little House Family, Karen sneaking a peek under the tent at Bob while Lisa was in the porta potty was so funny too. I did enjoy Andrew and Karen's trip when they got lost and found Seth's new shop. I was glad they were safe and that all worked out.

I have never been a great bike rider. I have the scars to prove it. I vaguely remember finding out that my friend rode a two-wheeler and me freaking out and going home to remove my training wheels. I had to be in the 5-6 age range. I get where Andrew was coming from. It sounded like he couldn't touch the ground on Karen's bike, so stopping gracefully would be a challenge. (It reminded me of the second Mighty Ducks movie where they got a new player who couldn't stop on skates. He would just crash into the boards every time.)
Wow, Seth rented his building for 10 years and got a 6 week notice to get out. He had to have had a lease. You wouldn't rent a business month to month. That seems pretty dirty from the landlord to not give more notice. Then again, Seth was apparently not successful enough after 10 years in business to invest in his own building. He really just sounded like a guy puttering around in his garage sometimes.
The little house sounded like it was two blocks from the slums of Stoneybrook. What was that abandoned lot full of weeds and trash that the kids ran by? Lol.
There is an extreme closeup of a clown face on page 66 that made me do a double-take.

What's with the circus themed books in this series? This is like the third one. There's Karen's Big Top, Karen's Magician and now this one. Have they forgotten that Karen was a ring master during circus camp?
