I liked this one a lot because it reminded me of how much I used to look forward to snow days. I enjoyed the plan for a perfect snow day since making a schedule like that is something I can relate to. ;D I can also relate to starting a task and trying to help only to have it waste all your free time that you’re looking forward to enjoying. Used to do that as a kid when I’d try to help my mom with something. ;D This book brought back good memories of playing in the snow, which I always loved. I sometimes consider it now but I can not tolerate the cold at all anymore. It’s awful.

Snow days were the best days ever. I loved unexpected snow days more than waiting for the big storms that you heard about all week and usually never came. I've pretty much always hated cold weather/snow, so my snow days were all about watching The Price is Right, Sally Jessi Raphael, and all the other daytime trash that I didn't get to see usually. I can't believe all the rich people in the big house neighborhood didn't have their own snowblowers to do their own driveways. Maybe they did but would rather pay the stupid teenagers down the block to do it for them?

^ ;D I always used to watch daytime "trash" when I was home sick from school. Of course, I watched "my" soaps on a routine basis every chance I got. ;D I think they probably did have snowblowers but would rather pay the stupid teenagers. What were they charging - about $2.00 or something like that? ;D

I loved reading this book as a kid, it reminded me of how I used to get so excited about snowstorms and snow days afterward and of course playing in the snow ;D. Nowadays, it's no big deal and I don't really enjoy the snow and cold as much as I used to but the first snowfall is still exciting ;D. I remember the end of this book, when the boiler broke at Stoneybrook Academy and they got off school for a week. I wonder if they had to make it up. I know that this is BSC land and all, but I wonder if they had to make up the time they missed. I know if my school was in that situation, we'd probably make it up at the end of the year.

I loved snow days but making them up was awful because it was such a waste of time at the end of the school year. Of course, I didn't mind because I usually was out of school anyway (one year I missed a record 45 days of excused absences because the teacher didn't care as long as I could do my work) to go to horse shows that started in May. ;D

I once got three or four snow days in one school year...after being told by the teachers that it wouldn't happen, since there had never been any snow days, EVER!
Never did happen again, though.

I used to love snow days as a kid, they were so exciting. Last year in college I actually got a snow day in college and it was great, it was on a day of a test so I got an extra day to study.

^ I had a college snow day once, too. And it was the Tues. before Thanksgiving so that made it an especially nice vacation. ;D I wish now for a "snow day" if it has to snow at all - just so I can have a "free day". ;D Ah, the joys of being a kid.... That's why I love reading LS and BSC books.

^ the closest things to snow days we get down here are hurricane or tropical storm days... sad but true.

^ A tropical storm day sounds downright terrifying. I hate thunderstorms, even, and absolutely can't stand losing electric! I read Karen's Hurricane for comfort every time we do. ;D Didn't you get a few snow flakes once though, blossom??? ;D ;D

A few years ago my sister worked at an office where their rule was if the schools had a snow day then they didn't have to come in to work. Grown up snow days! Whee!

I also have never had a "snow" day and I lived in Northern CA until I was 9 (I suppose we could have had some there, but I don't remember). I have had lots of hurricane/tropical storm days though like blossom! I remember there was supposed to be a really bad tropical storm one day which we got off school and it was so pretty outside! Maybe that one went your way blossom! I remember floods that cover the entire ground to where you are in a bus and it feels like you are floating along the road. I also remember stocking up on supplies and 'bunkering' down and then nothing horrible happening. At one point we put water in a huge trash can (cleaned very well of course) so that we would have something to drink in case one really did hit. Then again, we have had some of the most horrific thunder storms and I remember going into my mothers closet when I was 10 and crying and being scared to death that a tornado was going to hit (my family was at work). Plus we got about three days off of school because of a small hurricane that put power out and broke our fence in three places and a bunch of our trees! At least if I can't have snow days (which I would much rather) at least we got some type of days off!

hurricanes/tropical storms cause a lot more damage than snow days generally, which is why they're more of a bummer. snow days... innocent and fun and no damage!

^We've had ice and snow storms that have caused TONS of damage. Sometimes the snow piles up on tree branches until they fall over/off, it downs power lines, plus the snow doesn't just go away after the storm. It hangs around, and then people have to come and move it out of the way so cars can get through. I remember a few years ago, they talked about how so many people died from cold when the electricty went out that they had to put bodies in refrigerated postal trucks.
But that is the exception. Normally, hurricanes and tropical storms do cause more damage. Much more.

my dad lives in south florida on the coast, and it seems like once everyone repairs the damage from last year's hurricanes, another season starts. his patio thing totally collapsed once. so many people have their own generators on his street that whenever power goes out you can hear a really loud hum as everyone turns their generators on.
