I just finished reading this book and thought it was cute, although Karen was irritating me with her bossiness. I think they should have told Karen off for always making the plans about what to do, not only about not letting them have other friends, but oh well. Please, Karen-lovers, don't attack me! ;D I don't hate her, just thought she was a little irritating. I thought most of the drawings made the girls look adorable. The cover, umm.. I dunno.. Karen doesn't look like Karen, and Hannie only kind of looks like herself, I think. Anyone have any thoughts?

I love this book, and read it every summer as a kid. Karen does bug me with her bossiness in this one. But I loved all the stuff they did. Going to the carnival, Shadow Lake, etc. And their sleepover at the end.

Let me start off by saying this was my absolute favorite LS super special . I loved all the things that Karen and her friends did. Shadow Lake, the carnival, the sleepovers. When I was Karen's age I usually spent the summer with friends I had in my neighborhood or ones I never got to see during the school year so reading about Karen spending time with her school friends was cool. I also liked that they had POV's from Hannie and Nancy as well as Karen. I like reading Karen's POV, but it was refreshing to see POV's from Hannie and Nancy, since they are just known throughout LS as "The Musketeers". And their storylines were pretty good too ;D. Also liked that this book was referenced a lot in the Shadow Lake SS . However even though I'm a Karen fan, I will say that I didn't really like her bossiness in this book. She kind of reminded me of Kristy when she got mad at Hannie and Nancy for wanting to hang out with other friends and not her. She got angry just like Kristy did whenever someone from the BSC made other friends (i.e. Claudia and Ashley, Stacey and her bad crowd, etc.) and spent less time with her and the club. I also thought both Hannie and Nancy went about telling Karen their plans the wrong way. Hannie got too assertive too fast and immediately picked a a fight with Karen saying "Maybe I want to play with someone else!" And Nancy just pouted the whole time she was with Karen because she wanted to be with her other friend instead of her but refused to tell Karen anything until later. It would've been a lot easier had they just told Karen their plans from the start and if Karen would've been more reasonable because she was way too controlling in this book.

I like Hannie's and Nancy's storylines a lot too. I always want a chocolate milkshake when Nancy mentions them in the chapter where her friend Carly invites her out.

There's a great little local chain back home, called Nifty Fifties, that makes some wonderful shakes in a very wide variety of flavors.

Yeah I thought Karen was too bossy too. I had a friend like that years ago and she would get angry whenever I hung out with another friend. I actually read that book shortly after we had a fight about her bossiness. But I liked seeing Nancy and Hannie's storyline. It's nice getting to know some of the other kids when you hear about them a lot. I always wished they would do a series with Karen, Hannie and Nancy different POV's like they did with the BSC. I guess they kind of do it with The Kid's in Mrs. Colmans Class but I can't get into that series. I only read the one and didn't like it.

I wish all of Hannie's chapters had been like her first one. It was funny. She sounded as ditzy as Claudia. It was nice to see that not all kids are in love with their siblings, although a little surprising that Hannie disliked Sari as much as she did. She didn't like Andrew much either. I always wondered what Hannie and Nancy thought about Andrew being around so much.

^Nancy did so much stuff with the little house family that I figured she was pretty used to having Andrew around. Or should I say Andrew was used to having Nancy around. They knew each other as "Andrew" and "Nancy." Andrew and Hannie probably didn't know each other as well and had more of a "my best friend's little brother/my sister's friend" relationship. I just thought it was cute that Hannie was annoyed by having him around. Everyone in Stoneybrook was so nicey-nicey to each other that it was refreshing.

I just read this one. I liked the way it overlapped with "Babysitters at Shadow Lake" - those overlaps didn't seem to happen too often!

It's fun when they do overlap, though.

I thought karen was being a possessive little brat halfway through the book, she even got mad when hannie wanted to go shopping with her family.
I wanted to build a dollhouse like they did for the doll sisters and make clothes for them though, it was fun reading about the activities they did.
