First, regarding the discussion somewhere else about Claudia's vice presidential duties. She says in HH that she doesn't have many official duties but she takes her unofficial ones very seriously. I am really glad that they are trying to find a real person who is posing as a ghost instead of using the old assume it's supernatural until proven otherwise theory. I am disappointed that some of the spooky goings on we're just told about (screams in the night). Karen's chapter was just unnecessary. I've never read the LS books and have no desire to but, what a little b**** is Karen for being so bossy? Deciding for herself it's up to her to force friends on Martha. And she's manipulative! She narrates that she will say one thing in order to get someone to do what she wants. That way she gets the end result she wants. But, since she's only six and "precocious" we're suppose to think it's okay? Because she's just trying to do good? Why doesn't anybody talk to her about her behavior. I did like Jill's crush on Dawn. I think it adds some realism to the book. I can totally see a nine year old obsessing about teenagers. Of course we have the obligatory people from 100 years ago and the modern day people who parallel them. (Claudia and Georgio). At least Georgio thinks Claud is sixteen, instead of being a perv. I'm not even going to talk about the parents. Again they want nothing to do with their children. Young kids who sleep on different floor in rooms by themselves in a new place. If the babysitters freak because of the noises in the night, why aren't the kids freaking out to? And four 13 year old babysitters are responsible for helping four kids adjust to living in a new state drastically different from everything they've ever known. In ten days.

Jill's crush on Dawn was funny. "What are you doing today what are you wearing where are you going I wanna do what the teeeeenagers do."
Word about the boring Karen/Martha chapters. Martha seemed pretty mature for her age and there was Karen with her, "I am your friend. I will find you other friends. You will be so popular!" Annoying.

I thought Andrews chapter was cute. It was short to, so that helped. I did skim through it though.
One thing that surprised me was on the list the sitters found in the Cooper/Randolph bedroom. Get Georgio fired for fooling around with babysitter. Fooling around in a BSC book? Then Georgio, whose around 19, asked Claud, whom he thought was 16, to visit him at his college for the weekend and told he they could go to college parties and whatnot! Even at 16 that's a no no for any decent parent. I know Georgio said that he didn't place much importance on age, but seriously, inviting a girl you think is 16 to visit you and party with you at a college a few states away from her house for a weekend? I was really surprised to find that in a BSC book.

Not to mention a freshman/sophomore in college would not be able to date a sophomore/junior in high school without being made fun of by his buddies.

Hmmm, makes you wonder what those guys think they can get from the younger girls. It always sickens me when I hear guys talking about how they go for the younger ones because they tend to be easy. Maybe this was Georgio's m/o?

I remember being pleased that Lionel noticed how completely unnecessary all the baby-sitters were -- he said something like "Do we really need a gaggle of baby-sitters?" Of course, his parents shot him down because "the BSC would help him meet people". Yeah, okay. Because they are intimately familiar with the entire population of the town. I'm actually surprised he didn't spark a G-rated romance with any of the girls.
I also remember a part where Claudia is discussing a sitting job for Karen and Andrew, during which Karen organized a game where only she could talk. Kristy is narrating this chapter and comments, "I love how her mind works!" As was said on the TWoP boards, Karen is SUCH a Michelle Tanner.

One thing I kept having to remind myself of throughout this book was that Lionel was ONE YEAR OLDER than the baby sitters, but they treated him like one of their sitting charges. I also think he should have been the one to have a romance with one of the sitters, rather than creepy Georgio.

^^^ROFL yes Lionel's age and actions totally go against the rest of the BSC with their exaggerated age differences.
When I first read this book I think I was like 9. 14 sounded SO OLD to me. And considering the way Claudia decides seventh-graders are complete babies compared to eighth graders when she's sent back, plus how Mallory can exert total control over her three brothers a year younger than her, I'm surprised Lionel wasn't, like, buying porn, registering for the army, and voting.

What's a speech class anyway? ^ Just a class in college. It supposedly teaches you how to speak in front of a crowd and how to make speeches. Etc.

I completly forgot that Lionel was a year older than the bsc members. That always did seem weird to me how they treated him like a sitting charge than somebody close to their age. oh well

I was really surprised at how Claudia broke up with Georgio. (And I'm going to ignore their HUGE age differences here.) I couldn't believe that Claudia didn't tell Georgio 'no' to homecoming before she left! I thought that was kind of mean and insensitive of her. So then once she gets back to Stoneybrook, Georgio writes her a letter, all excited for homecoming and making all these plans with her-- and then Claudia basically just writes back saying "oh by the way, I'm not really 16... I'm 13, and I'm not going to homecoming with you." If I were Georgio I would be incredibly pissed when i got that letter. Claudia should've told him all that stuff to his face while she was still in Reese, instead of writing a “Dear John” letter.
And after reading this book, I still can't figure out the Cooper's thinking on this one. They were planning to scare the Menders out of their own home by pretending to be 'ghosts' and turning on lights on the 4th Floor? I don't know... it just seems pretty silly to me.
And I'm still wondering how the Coopers were planning to bust Georgio for "fooling around" with a sitter, AFTER the company leaves? Did they take snapshots of Georgio and Claudia's kiss on the cheek? Or secretly film them in the garden or something?? I'm still confused how they were planning on doing this.

I think this is my favorite Super Mystery. I’m also having my dad read it right now (he wanted to try a book of every kind) and we both really love the descriptions of the house and of the town of Reese. Dad was disappointed when I told him I didn’t think the town was a real place because he wants to go there I had the mystery figured out pretty quickly but it was still fun to read about all of the red herrings and investigations. One question that I have, and I might have just missed it, was if the similarities between Claudia/Georgio and Lydia/George was part of the Coopers’ plot or if it was just coincidence. I didn’t mind the Stoneybrook subplot and enjoyed reading about Mal and Jessi getting so worried that they had ruined the club – really another example of how they try so hard to please the other girls. Mal mutilating the bread and freaking out at the Rosebud was hilarious but I give Logan some blame for not at least telling them that he had taken on an extra shift. I liked the Reese parade – especially the costumes – Stoneybrook parade and how the kids rode their bikes/skateboards, etc. It reminded me of the “kiddies parade” that my town has every year during its Blueberry Festival where kids dress up in costumes and ride/walk/bike down the streets. I used to do it every year as a kid and absolutely loved coming up with elaborate costumes. I just watched a video of myself and my cousin dressed up in pioneer costumes and riding in the parade in my pony cart because this book brought back such fond memories of that In all, it wasn’t my favorite mystery but my favorite Super Mystery and one of my favorite books to read on vacation. The only thing that bugged me was Georgio/Claudia. I can see how she was infatuated with him but it seemed kind of creepy that he liked her so well when she was so young.

I also thought it was creepy that Georgio was so interested in Claudia. It even weirded me out when I was younger. I think this was one of my favorite super mysteries, for the plain reason that it was one of the first Babysitters club books I read! It was a good way for me to introduce the series to me.
