I thought it was stupid how getting their ears pierced was such a big deal and the way they went on about claudia and stacey caring about clothes made it sound like the rest of them didn't wear nice clothes at all and just lazy boring styles.

Claudia's spelling annoyed me along with her chicken-scratch writing because it made her notebook entries so impossible to read. Plus, her spelling got progressively worse throughout the series. In earlier books, she was spelling most things right, with only a few mistakes, but in middle and later books, almost every word was spelled wrong. Sometimes she'd misspell the same word two different ways. Annoying!

Kristy was okay, she was just overdoing it in stacey vs. the bsc with the straws up her nose bit, please!

It seemed like the girls' worst characteristics became more extreme in the later books--like Claudia's spelling and the straw thing with Kristy that supprazz mentioned. It drove me nuts!

I'm a fifth grade teacher, which means I teach ten year olds. I laughed out loud grading papers this afternoon, because I had a student spell the same word three different ways in one paragraph.
The word was because. She spelled it beacuse, because, becouse. It reminded me of Claudia and this thread, because I think someone said it's unlikely that a person would do that!
So, it's something a ten year old would do!
I'm always annoyed at how Claudia claims she'll never need math or science because she'll be an artist. I kind of hope that her manager or art gallery rips her off someday because she doesn't have the basic math skills to know how much money they owe her. Does she think she won't have to pay bills, or shop, or budget in any way as an adult? Of course she needs math skills!

Maybe she thinks she'll be so ridiculously famous she'll have minions do that work for her? Sorry Claud, you'll never get away from math!

Yeah, she does well when she really makes the effort, but most of the time she just doesn't feel like it. I really liked it in Claudia and the Middle School Mystery when she managed to get an A on her math test...by STUDYING HARD.

yeah I was happy for her getting A, I felt sad when she got a B minus (which is low 80's in America) and her family was not happy with her in Claudia and the Sad Goodbye when she was defending herself. That's better than nothing. I guess cause in Canada anything 80 and above is considered an A....maybe she should have moved here.

-Mary Anne crying all the time, and her handwriting -Kristy seeming like a big baby- she's not -Claudia's spelling and punctuation -The way they tell us Jessi is black -Stacey being "sophisticated". Every time I read about it, my mind always goes to the episode of "Spongebob", where pronounces it "Phosisticated". -Mallory whining about not being treated older -Stereotyping Dawn -Stereotyping clients, like Jenny P. is a brat, Jackie Rodowsky, walking disaster, Perkinses- talented/ smart. You get the picture.

I think it's annoying how they're so hell-bent on the "4 kids per sitter rule," to the point where they have somewhat of a fallout with Mrs. Marshall over it. And yet the whole neighbourhood can show up randomly when they're on a job and their attitude is "the more the merrier!" If that were me, there's no way I'd react that way. I couldn't safely and responsibly look after, like, 10 kids on my own, and I'm 10 years older than the girls. Plus, they weren't even getting paid to look after those extra kids! I don't know if you could call this an inconsistancy, but whatever it is, it for some reason drives me nuts. Maybe because I've worked at a day care, where they have incredibly strict rules about how many kids we can look after on our own at any given time, but I think it's just irresponsible baby-sitting coming from the girls.

I thought it was stupid how getting their ears pierced was such a big deal When I was younger, it WAS a big deal. I also didn't like Dawn's character development. Most vegetarians don't lecture other people on their food choices unless asked. Sometimes, not even then!

I never understood why most kids can't get their ears pierced till a certain age. Most people I know including most with the same cultural background take their little girls to get their ears pierced when they aren't old enough to remember it. I got mine done before turning 1 and so did my sister, and I know plenty of people who did that and used to laugh at people in books and tv who weren't allowed to get them done until junior high, or high school
