Both my mom and stepmom made a big deal about it, but my dad, despite being a Tough Businessman, is pretty easily manipulated by his daughters and my little sister and I both had him take us, without our moms knowing, at age 8.

I don't like when people get their babies' ears pierced. It may not seem like a big deal, but there are girls out there who don't want their ears pierced. Why not just wait until the kid can decide that she wants it done.

I got mine done for my 12th birthday, and my cousins followed suit. I suspect it'll be the same with our dd.

When I was in junior high getting your ears pierced was a HUGE deal. My mom wouldn't let me get mine done at first, I was so happy when she relented. I got it done at a jewelry store in the mall (I still remember the name- Bedazzled) and it hurt like hell. I was always a little annoyed at how it seemed like Stacey always had to have a boyfriend later in the series. It bothered me how quickly she got together with Ethan after the breakup with Robert. I don't have anything against Ethan, the quickness of it just felt like an implication that there was something wrong with her being single. It happened in the same book, for goodness sakes. Why was it so necessary for her to have a boyfriend? OMG, she doesn't have a boyfriend anymore, find her another one fast! It also bugged me how she'd get so wrapped up in her boyfriends. Like in Stacey's Choice, her father offers to take her on vacation anywhere she wants to go, and she picks Davis Park because that's where Robert is. And again in BSC in the USA, she could have gone any place in the country she wanted and she picked Seattle because that's where Ethan was. She had the whole country at her fingertips and all she cared about was seeing her boyfriend. I don't know, it just made her seem kind of dependent. This isn't something annoying, but I've always wondered how Claudia managed to hide so much junk food in her room at once. She always seemed to have tons of it, you'd think the sheer volume would make it hard to hide very well. Did her parents never go into her room?

I was always bothered by her choice, because she was my favorite and I thought she would pick a cool destination based on her interests and not just because her current boyfriend would be there. It's like, we get that she's boy-crazy. Although, Mary Anne's choice was not that exciting, she wanted to go to Iowa to see her grandma, but I think it's a much more understandable one, because it's her only relative besides her father and stepmother and stepsiblings, and she lives in the Midwest. Stacey OTOH would be able to see Ethan a lot when she visited her dad.

I just realized that all of the girls have next to perfect romances. It's so unrealistic!

^Nah, I think Logan's a twerp plenty of times. Mary Anne is either very forgiving or has a very short memory.

There's nothing wrong with Seattle. I understand what you're saying, though. Her choice in "BSC in the USA" didn't bug me as much as the Fire Island one. That can't have been a particularly exciting place. She could have gone to freakin' EUROPE!!!

Haha I knew you were from Seattle and I thought you might interpret that differently! But I didn't have time to edit. I didn't mean that Seattle was uncool, just that I would have liked it better if she had really wanted to go there for herself, not Robert. And ditto about Fire Island (I think I picked up on the USA one first because I read that book much more) - that was just laughable!

^ I was just teasing...I know what you meant. I agree that the whole idea of picking a vacation spot based on based on a boyfriend is silly, especially at that age.

She said perhaps there would be time enough to visit Europe when she was older.. or something like that. There may have been more to but I'm not a huge fan of this book so I dont frequently re-read it.

The Fire Island thing bugged me too. But you can't fault Stacey for being popular with boys! Girl can't help it.
