While I can't say I "like" Jenny P (I'm not even going to attempt spelling the last name), she is so bratty that I enjoy reading about her. I thought she was funny in Mary Anne and Miss Priss and liked the story about her trying to play kickball with the Pikes (can't remember which book it was in). Her interaction with the Pikes is always fun because they are so wild and she is so .... prissy. Anyone else "love to hate" Jenny?

Hee! I guess I always had a soft spot for the "bad" BSC kids. I loved Jenny, especially in Mary Anne vs. Logan (I think it was) when she first met her little sister. So sweet.

I didn't think she was as bad as they made her out to be. Sure, she had her moments, like in "Aloha, Baby-sitters!", but she wasn't *impossible*. I would have preferred to sit for her (when she's being reasonably good) than the Barretts in their impossible three days.

Plus, I would have had a ball dressing her up in her frilly little outfits! She really was sweet with Andrea once she warmed up to the idea of having a little sister. I liked that Mary Anne was so patient with her and didn't complain as much about sitting for her as the other girls did.

I would love dressing Jenny, too. That is one of the things that I like about reading stories with her in them. Mary Anne is really good with her. Have Kristy or Abby ever sat for Jenny? I think this would be interesting. The ultimate tom-boys trying to take care of the ultimate "miss priss." I also don't think Jenny is that bad. The only time I thought she was terribly rude was to Matt Braddock in "Jessi's Secret Language" but she is only 3 and little kids are not known for discretion.

I hate how every single time they mention Jenny, they had to add something mean like (bratty) or (groan). Okay, she's not the greatest girl in the world, but she's 4 years old. Quit being so rude.

Exactly. I don't think she's that much harder to sit for than a lot of the other kids (the walking disaster - need I say more)

Jenny P reminds me a lot of Nellie Oleson on "Little House on the Prairie." Her dad seemed okay (a little spineless, I'll admit), but her mom was the one who seemed awful. I mean, if anything, Madeline was the one who fussed over her "darling jenny" getting dirty and all that stuff. She had to learn it somewhere. I felt bad for her and Andrea. You could tell that Jenny really did want to be like other kids, deep down. I wonder how those kids grew up? Like, if they outgrew it like Nellie did or if they kept acting like that? Geni

I feel bad for Jenny. Her mom is clearly screwing her up. I can't imagine she'd be THAT difficult to sit for... I think she would ENJOY having sitters because she can at least do some normal fun kid stuff for a couple of hours.
I think the BSC were just impatient and bratty with her. I hated how everytime Mrs. P called it was like OH NO, I SURE HOPE MARY ANNE IS AVAILABLE!!
And Jenny was pretty cute with Andrea when she got used to her.
I really don't remember Kristy ever sitting for her. I think it'd start out with Kristy whining and complaining about Jenny, but in the end they'd discover Jenny's inate ability to play softball or something - watch out Gabbie Perkins.

Kristy had a regular sitting job with with the Prezziosos in the Parade of Orange Lumps & Hot Pink Clowns. It was more focused on Queen Andrea, though, so I don't remember exactly how she got on with Jenny. Must not have been too bad.
Seeing as Mary Anne is supposed to be the only one who kind of liked Jenny, I thought it was out of character that she was the one who wailed "Another spoiled brat?" when Stacey mentioned a Jenny-like kid when the BSC go to NY to embarrass Stacey. I'm sure MA does think Jenny's a brat, but why have her be the one who says it? Not to mention wailing it when you're right outside the client's door?

I never understood why the girls thought it was so weird that Jenny's parents call her "angel". I call my neice angel all the time. To me, it's no different than calling her sweetie or honey.

Ooh yeah the BSC like, freak out over the "angel" thing, but I think it's because they thought Mrs. P was trying to like, CREATE that out of Jenny. Like... Jenny had to mold herself into the "angel" her mother wanted her to be, you know? And her mom wasn't just CALLING her angel or princess or something, she was dressing her as that part, expecting her to ACT the part as well.

Jenny never seemed that bad too me, either. O.K., she could be a brat sometimes, but she's four! And I do think she is sweet a lot of the time. She does what the girls tell her to do. It always bugged me how a kid would be a 'OMG FREAKING DISASTER KID' when they ignored the girls orders for once, said 'no' or didn't feel like playing monopoly or something. Or if they pretended to be cat the entire afternoon. What's so bad about that?

I think that it is weird how the girls have labels for some of the kids they sit for. I mean Jackie "the walking disaster one," Jenny "the bratty one," Jamie Newton "the adorable one," etc. I mean, they go into a sitting job already having a certain perception of a child, so it might be hard for the child, like Jenny, to break that perception or label placed on her/him. But I'm not sure if any of the kids know about that, so I guess that's good. It might also be hard for themselves to break those perceptions of certain kids because they have lived with those perceptions for a while now.
