I have an irrational, intense dislike for Margo. She always rubbed me the wrong way, even though she never did anything particularly hate-wothy. I always thought she's a younger version of Mallory, and could even be a bigger dork at age 11 than Mal. Although she's pretty bad-ass for shoplifting! What did she steal?

^ Aw. I've actually always kind of liked Margo, though not sure why. But then again, I love Karen ;D (who many seem to hate) so I can understand different views of characters. I don't really see Margo's dorky side but don't focus on Mal's either. Just read the shoplifting subplot and can't remember exactly what she stole. I think it was a pack of gum, maybe a ring, and a few other small and cheap items from some kind of dollar store type place. I wanted to post on Margo’s shoplifting, anyway. She said that she did it because she liked playing with her “treasures” in secret. I wonder if this is because she is struggling to find her individuality and place in a big family with so many siblings that really overshadow her. I would guess that this is where her “bossy phase” that some of the books mention also comes from (playing all of the time with 5 year old Claire doesn’t hurt, either). The triplets are loud bullys who can be a handful, Nicky is the only boy and very touchy about the triples’ teasing and sitters and his parents are aware of this, Mal is the oldest who is treated more like a sitter than a sister, Claire is the baby who almost demands to be seen/heard (she’s too cute with her silliness and affectionateness, and even the poet Vanessa seems more outgoing than Margo (meaning not shy) in that she makes herself noticeable by driving everyone insane with her rhyming. Poor Margo is left with the identity of banana-foot peeler who gets motion sick.

I was a lot like Claire when I was a kid. I was the baby of the family who demanded to be seen and heard. I don't think I was ever quite as silly as she was though.

I love Margo! i didn't know people didn't like her! Margo is super cute! I feel bad for her, she's the only Pike kid without a true identity (except for barfing all the time and who wants that as the thing people remember them for?!). Margo's a cutie and I love how she kinda looks out for Claire, but at the same time sort of keeps her in check. I have never thought of Margo as dorky like Mallory. I like her Sea City chapter, the picture of her is really cute too

You guys are right, outside of throwing up a lot, poor Margo really doesn't have any defining personality traits. Aw. I like her though, she seems like a good kid. And I love her and Claire's relationship - it seems very realistic because they get along for the most part, but then sometimes Margo pulls the "bossy older sister" thing.

^ I just reread Dawn and the Impossible Three and loved the description of Margo in the straw hat singing "Puff the Magic Dragon". I never consider her a "ham" like Claire but in some books, she really is. I like seeing this side of her and the funny side. I like all of the Pike girls. They are some of my favorite charges, I think. Another thing about the Pikes in this book (loved the Bizzer scene ;D) that I had forgotten but liked was when Nicky told Suzi Barrett they had dinosaur bandaids for her, trying to make her feel better after she scraped her knee. I usually don't like Nicky but thought this was nice.

Claire is my favorite Pike kid. I really like the triplets too(I know, I'm weird). Nicky and Vanessa just got on my nerves. Margo was pretty cute too.

Just read a cute Claire moment in Claudia and the Middle School Mystery where she scrapes her knee and tells Stacey to put on the "thirst aid" cream ;D I love Claire and Margo and Vanessa but Nicky is too whiny and the triplets are too obnoxious and bratty for me.

I love all the Pike girls. I like Nicky too because he seems like a sweet kid and I feel really bad for him because his brothers are such jerks. He just wants to fit in and they refuse to let him. Poor guy, he's stuck in the middle with no one to hang out with.

I agree. If he didn't hate girls, him and Vanessa would probably get along well cause she also didn't really have a bff in the family. She was close to Mal, but even then Mal was more like a parent than a sibling.

I could see the Pike kids splitting into two groups as they get older: the nerds and the popular kids. Mallory, Byron, Vanessa, and Nicky would be the nerds while Adam, Jordan, Margo, and Claire would be popular and have a lot of friends.
