He really did remind me of my brother when he was 10. I think he was one of the most realisticially portrayed kids in the series.

I'm usually not a big fan of Jeff's but I thought he was really funny in Here Come the Bridesmaids. I loved his journal entry for his dad's wedding where he said that he was considering hanging a sign around his neck saying something like "I'm Jeff. I'm Jack's son. Yes, I've grown. I'm a kid." So many times, I've had these same type of thoughts at family parties and especially at things like my graduation party. How many times can you answer the same question without wanting to scream? Jeff was kind of bratty in this one but not as bad as sometimes and actually pretty realistic, I thought. He was the bright spot in this slightly boring book.

Did he really need a babysitter though? I remember when I was 10 I was allowed to stay at home by myself. But I liked that Jeff wasn't as big a health nut as Dawn is.

^Well, in BSC-land, 10 = practically an infant. Jeff just needed to be patient and wait til he turned 11 and then suddenly he'd be a mini-adult! I didn't stay home alone at 10, my older sister (who was 14) was required to stay with me and my sis.

I basically ignore the ages they give and make up my own. Only way I can deal with a lot of the aspects of the book without thinking they are unplausible. A wonderful thing about fiction and books - also why I hesitate to watch the BSC movie.

My feelings on Jeff seemed to change based on the book. In some books I thought he was in a bratty kid, in others I thought he had some sort of cute kid charm. One thing I always did like was the relationship that Dawn and him had. I thought it was a good brother/sister relationship.

My feelings are the same towards Jeff, though I usually can't stand him and never like his jokes. I do also enjoy his relationship with Dawn, though. A question about Jeff: is it ever mentioned when or how he becomes friends with the triplets? What is the first book that really talks about them hanging out together?

I really liked the scene in CA Girls where Jeff had to get the Dewitt boys out of the bathroom at Universal. He seemed really mature and responsible in some books like that. I think I like Jeff a lot more in the CA books because he doesn't seem as bratty. Maybe the Pike triplets are bad influences in Stoneybrook??? Or maybe he is reacting somehow to Richard or to being unhappy (though that wouldn't explain the behavior on visits).

Jeff had major anger management issues. Remember how he blew up at Dawn that one time she babysat him over nothing? Jeff always seemed like a spoiled California skater/surfer boy to me.

^ That's kind of how he seemed to me too. He could have a sweet side but had some definite issues. I think he was a lot like his dad, too - a nice guy and good at times but spoiled in many ways. I also remember when he blew up at MA when she was sitting for him and found the note to his dad saying he wanted to move back to CA. I always kind of felt badly for Sharon that Jeff wanted to be with his dad more (I know he was really just "choosing his old life" but it still had to make Sharon feel rejected, especially when Dawn left, too.)

I really like Jeff. He was sometimes bratty but what 10 year old isn't? I find him to be one of the most rounded and well-realized siblings of the series. I also liked that he and Dawn were close, and supported each other after their parents divorce and through all the moves Dawn made. The only book in which I found myself really annoyed with him was Dawn's Family Feud. He was really unreasonable, and made no effort to help the vacation go better. Other than that, though, I thought Jeff was a great character.

^ I agree. I didn't like how he just decided to always refer to him as "sir." From right there, he decided that he wouldn't give a close relationship with Richard a chance, in my opinion.

^ I agree. I thought that same thing. It kind seemed like he never gave Richard a chance just like he didn't really seem to give Stoneybrook a chance (though both are understandable). He had a very different personality from Richard's, too, which might have had a lot to do with it.

I really like Jeff when he is around the younger kids because he seems pretty responsible – especially in books like Island Adventure and CA Girls. Other times, though, he can be such a brat and I can’t stand the way he treats Richard. I guess this is typical for a boy his age but I wish the character would be consistently nicer. He does also seem better when in CA so maybe it’s that he’s so unhappy in Stoneybrook – even when he comes to visit. I do feel for him with that but also for Sharon because she must feel bad to know her own son doesn’t even want to live with her and it must be hard to be separated from him (Dawn too) so much
