^ i had a psychology professor named marnie once. she was no-nonsense and blew through the material, but she was also pregnant so the cutesy name seemed more fitting.

There's a character on the show "Girls" with the name Marnie. I've always thought it was kind of cute.

I really like the Barrett kids. Especially Marnie. She and Suzi sounded really cute!

Suzi's Cloud Cuckoo Lander personality in the film is hilarious.

I love the Barretts on their own. Yet at the same time, I like reading chapters with them and the Dewitts for the train wreck factor.

We have a new family in the neighborhood. Their youngest child is how I picture Marnie. Maybe 2 or 3. Might be language delayed. Runs around with her big siblings outside in the yard wearing little more than a saggy diaper. Ironically her name is Mallory. The older siblings were a bad influence on my son and taught him inappropriate language.
Emily needing speech therapy is talked about by the Brewers but no one ever mentions this for Marnie. Squirt Ramsey used more language than she did and he was younger. My son was referred by his pediatrician to a speech therapist for language delays when he was 18 months old. He had 3 words he was using (Dada, no and ki (kitty). He is fine now in terms of speech but I am glad we helped him when we did. By contrast, my daughter who is 13 months old and not delayed currently says 8 (mama, Dada, no, cat, hi, baba (bottle), daychu (thank you), kiki (kitty).
I feel like Marnie probably needed help but the whole plot with the Barretts was their mother being overwhelmed as a single mom.
I loved Suzi the best. She just seemed sweet. Both she and Buddy really seemed to need more attention than they were getting.

Yeah, Marnie should've been talking a LOT more for her age. I'm sure part of the reason why she is language delayed is because Ms. Barrett didn't seem to raise her properly much.
I also love Suzie! She's adorable!

I'm not around kids very often so I never realized that Marnie's speech was unusual for her age. It makes a lot of sense when you consider her home situation and Mrs. Barrett's parenting, and it seems like a natural consequence from having too little attention. But I doubt it was written that way intentionally.

I've been thinking recently that it's not entirely fair for Dawn to be grousing about how Mrs. Barrett herself is always so well-dressed and put-together when her kids and her house are a wreck, when a lot of the times that Dawn was sitting for the Barretts, it was because Mrs. Barrett was going on job interviews. I know she wasn't always at job interviews, and I know it is a character trait of hers to take a lot of care with her appearance while neglecting other things, but still. I don't think it would be helpful for her to show up to job interviews looking a mess. She does have to make a good impression at the interview if she wants to, you know, get a job in order to support her three children.

Yeah, and they also say she makes simple outfits look good. I think she's just very attractive which makes her more glamourous to them than most Stoneybrook moms.

The books make it seem like she prioritizes her appearance over her kids, but really she does it FOR the benefit of her children. You just changed my mind a little about Mrs. Barrett.

Yeah, wanderingfrog just shed a new light on Mrs. Barrett.
I’ve always wondered whatever happened to Mr. Barrett. He was only shown in #5 when he kidnapped Buddy. Did he run off or something? Became a Patrick Thomas? It would’ve made a lot of sense if he was arrested and put in jail; that’d be a reason why he disappeared.
