Working in childcare (looking to change fields though) the toddlers did irritate me a bit especially in how they were babied. Most of them could barely talk. Emily Michelle I understood but I know plenty of 2s who speak in complete sentences. There were too many 2 year olds acting like 1 year olds or acting like far older children.
typical conversation between myself and one of my two year old students(will be three in august):
him: read me book?
me: no I'm busy
him: but you have to!
me: not right now
him: yes you do. i say you do. read me book now.
me: read it yourself while I'm busy
him: I can't I can't you have to. my mommy say you have to.
me: your mommy would tell you the same thing if she was busy.
him: my mommy not tell me the same thing! You have to read it.
(he proceeds to throw a tantrum)
another 2. (will be three in november)
me: no spitting
him: i want to spit
me: in the sink not on the rug
him: (screaming) no spit in sink. i don't wanna spit in the sink.
me: then you will have to sit with a teacher until your mommy comes.
him: no sit with teacher. I don't wanna.
me: we can call your mommy right now and tell her you are not obeying.
him: No don't call my mommy. I sorry. I sorry. I don't spit.
2 year old girl (was 2 in february)
her: tonka (her dog) bite me. he bites me.
me: really? that must have hurt
her: tonka eat my cat.
me: oh that is sad to hear. can you put your blankie away please?
her: why?
me: it can't stay in the middle of the floor.
her: why?
me: put it away please
her: but i want my blankie! i want it.
another 2 (was 2 in april)
her: my beep (sheep) baaa
me: no that's a goat
her: no no beep. my beep.
me: no goat. this is a sheep.
her: no no cow. moo moo. mine cow.

her: bapple. what this?
me: hamburger
her: burger
1 year old (2 in october)
him: hug?
me: put your toy away first
him: (hugs anyway) love!
me: put your toy away.
him. no no. Want Mommy.
1 year old (2 in December)

me: do you want a drink?
her: yeah (nodding head)
1 year old (2 next may)
