I agree, she definitely took the easy way out in stereotyping them as "the shy one" and "the outgoing one" -- but then she did give Carolyn her science thing which was kind of different. aln, I don't remember the description of the Arnold house at Christmastime! I'd love to read it though, I think decorating for Christmas and being all festive like that is so much fun.

^ Now I don't remember what book that was in ;D Maybe Stacey and the Empty House but I might be way off. Anyone else remember? I'll have to put it on my list to reread before Christmas.

I don't think it's so strange that one is shy and one is more outgoing. Me and my sister are exactly like that, all through school though we were actually "the mean twin" and "the nice twin" because apparently being louder = being mean. i suppose you can guess which one i was, lol. i'm not bitter, i promise

^ Agree it's not so strange. Two of the twins I know were the same way with one being more outgoing and the other being more what I would call "quietly devious" ;D (she drove a golf cart through the side of her garage and painted her name with spraypaint on the side of the house by the age of 7)

^ I think she actually got better but we don't ever see her anymore and had already had a falling out with the family (over something that she and her sister did and blamed my mom for - very long story that I won't get into....) She wasn't an evil child, just desperate for attention.

Just something interesting I discovered the other day...
In the 2nd book, Claudia and the Phantom Phone Calls -- or maybe it was Claudia and the Mean Janine, anyway -- Claudia makes a phone call but she dials too fast and hears "Hello, Arnold residence" and she immediately hangs up (rude, much?). This is before they get hired to sit for the twins -- dum dum dum.

^ I missed that but it's funny. ;D Leave it to Claudia.... I'm not a big fan of the twins but think I like Marilyn more than Carolyn. Maybe this is because Carolyn does more of the weird things (like the time machine, though I guess that's really the only weird thing she does ;D) or because I associate her with Haley, who I don't like. Marilyn is bossy sometimes but I don't mind her too much. Not sure why, though. I wish they would have developed both twins' personalities more and given Marilyn a few more friends. I think her and Margo were kind of friends and see interesting potential for this since Margo is bossy too. ;D

I like them both. I like Carolyn, because she is popular and likes science and fashion, but I think her hair is ugly. I like marilyn because she likes music and piano and would be easier to sit for if I had a ton of homework.

carolyn's hair IS ugly, but i comfort myself that had she been written in a different era, her hair would be less ugly.

^ ; D According to a few of the books, Carolyn's hair is very stylish and cool. ;D I agree Marilyn might be easier to sit for and I think I like her personality better. Wish I knew more about both of them, though. I'm reading Trouble With Twins in honor of my mom's bday on Wed. (since the twins are dressed for a bday on the cover and celebrate theirs ;D) so will see if I gain any more insight then.

I liked them both; Carolyn because she had cool clothes and I liked her name, and Marilyn because she was all about music.

As a kid I thought Carolyn sounded soooo cool in MA and the Great Romance. She was supposedly outgoing, a snazzy dresser, had a lot of friends, and got to go over to their houses after school every day and hang out. Plus I wanted her new room. The description of it sounded awesome to me back then, but now, I wouldn't want cat anything in my room or home!
