I dont know if this had been mentioned in this thread but I saw someplace that a person compared Laine to Blair from Gossip Girls and I thought that was genius.I guess Stacey is Serena then.

IIRC, Mrs. McGill and Mrs. Cummings were friends in college, and they pushed for Laine and Stacey to be friends as well. something like that has to happen organically. of course the situation going to blow up in the mom's faces at some point.
I don't think King dressed "goth", I can imagine him more in a rockabilly style. bowling shirts and Creepers and whatnot.
it creeps me out that Laine knows she can pass for 18.

i don't think Laine was THAT bad, yes she was rude to Stacey but try to think back to your lives at 13 years old. I think that Stacey was 12 when she was diagnosed with diabetes, since in the books it is mentioned that Stacey moved to Stoneybrooke for a "Fresh Start" I think being a twelve year old freaking out and making fun of someone who wetted the bed wasn't a very nice thing, no, but i can understand how someone who is twelve would freak out and think "There is something wrong with her!"
and everyone goes through that 'I'm so cool" stage in life, Laine started hers in ex-bestfriend, and Stacey started hers with Stacey vs the BSC
Also, I can imagine that Laine has a spoiled brat attitude with all the luxuries she had that Stacey mentions in her portrait book. and another thing, that surprises me, is that Stacey was not more of a snob considering all her friends and how they were a little more 'behind' than she is.

I have a feeling that Stacey and Laine wouldn't have been friends if their mothers hadn't been friends. I had a couple of close friends (twin girls) when I was younger, their mother was good friends with my mother, and we played together a lot but we didn't have much in common. We drifted apart when we were about 11 or 12. That might have been the case with Stacey and Laine.

I don't like Laine that much but I thought that she was nice in some books like New York, New York. I can't believe Stacey became friends with her again after how she was treated by Laine.

I hated her in TSB. I thought she was a witch.

^ I hated her in that book as well. I can't understand why Stacey would want to be friends with her again after how Laine treated her.

When described like that, King sounds HOT!!! What book was it where Stace is visiting her dad in NY and they run in to Laine and her friends and she's all nice to Stacey? I don't know why but I always got the impression that Laine used the fact that she looked older to her advantage and lived "fast" if you know what I mean, and that she looked burnt out when she saw Stacey? I can't remember which book it is but I'm sure Stacey says something to the effect of Laine looking worn out or something.

^Yes! Stacey's Problem is the book. The way Laine talks about Claudia is really rude. She basically sides with Stacey (who's since made up with Claud) and goes on to trash talk Claudia, saying she's dumb and that she (Laine) would totally dump a friend for a guy. Here's what Stacey thinks about Laine: This makes me kind of sad for Laine. I'm sure she was nice to Stacey because she was genuinely happy to see her. She probably fell in with the wrong crowd and realized that Stacey was a true friend. But, being Laine, who's too cool for school, she'd never admit that to herself or anyone else. I feel kind of sorry for her. She's probably just so used to being cool and doing what's expected of her that she's forgotten (or never learned) to be her own person. I can see where that would make someone unhappy, even if they don't realize it. I'd like to think Laine realizes that at some point and stops caring about what other people think. *edited for clarity, I was rambling a bit so I cleaned it up a little.

I feel like they overdid Laine's evilness in The Summer Before. She's so horrible, then once you get to The Truth About Stacey, it makes it kinda unrealistic that they would ever make up. I feel like the writers decided, Well, Laine turns into an evil b*tch later in the series, so we might as well make her evil in the beginning. It makes the middle books where she's nice (like New York, New York) seem too out of character.

Celaeno, I agree! I absolutely hated Laine in The Summer Before. Why Stacey would even want to rekindle the friendship with someone like that is beyond me. It made me even more glad that Stacey decided to end the friendship for good in #51.
Laine in SS #6 was like a totally different Laine.
