What other books do we get to see her in besides Claudia and the New Girl? I really liked Ashley, even though she wore *gasp* bell-bottoms to school. (As if bell-bottoms are so much worse than some of the outfits Claudia came up with!) Granted, she was a bit crazy about the art thing and encouraging Claudia to ditch everything non-art related, but I chalk that up to being young and super-passionate about her art, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Also, she was a total hippie chick and I love that. I would have liked to see more of her and Claudia's toned-down friendship after Claudia and the New Girl ended. Does she have any large-ish parts in any other books? (Or small parts?)

She shows up in Claudia Kishi, Live from WSTO, or whatever that radio station book was called, but whichever ghostwriter was responsible for it totally butchered her character. She actually says something like, "Art isn't everything." Yeah, that'd happen.

She's in Babysitters Winter Vacation. She bunks with Kristy after everyone has already paired up, and lies on the floor to sketch while the others go exploring the lodge.

Bell bottoms are flares aren't they?
If they are, i like them.
Ashley seemed abit freaky. Did she not have any friends apart from claudia.
I can see ashley joining some sort of cult.

^Yeah, bell-bottoms are flares. I'm not sure why Stacey had such a problem with them.
I agree, it was weird that Ashley had no friends other than Claudia! I think it was because she was so involved with her art that she felt like she had nothing in common with the other kids at school, who just wanted to hang out at the mall or something on the weekends.
I can picture Ashley actually growing up to be a famous artist, as opposed to Claudia who I think will end up teaching 'art' classes to junior high school kids.

ooh I totally agree with you, hitzpink. I bet Ashley WOULD be the one to become a famous artist, I mean judging by Claudia and the New Girl (not so odd she didn't have other friends, she was new!), she definitely had the dedication I can see her being a "real" artist and Claudia like, just playing around with it and making kewl jewelry.

Her appearance in Claudia Kishi, Live from WSTO was probably one of the most startling examples of the contrast between AMM written books and ghostwritten ones. Terrible.

Theres actually a difference between bell bottoms and flares. Bells are a lot wider than flares, and actually look like a bell starting around the calf area of the pants. Flares just kind of flare out a bit at the bottom. Either way, no one was wearing either at the time "Claudia and The New Girl" came out. It was all about the tapered legs then, or leggings haha.

I like Ash's art..I dunno but claudia's seems to make happy art. What with drawing chocolate and making fun earings.
I love morbid/dark art- Not that Ash's is but it is close enough (in bsc land)

No, I see what you mean -- at least I think I do, that Ashley took it more seriously and Claudia's was more frivolous? That was what I always thought, too. Like, when Claudia grows up, is she going to sell Miracul Cure earrings and stuff? And get famous for that?

I kind of felt bad for Ashley, though. It seemed like she never had time to be a kid... or a teenager, for that matter.

I always sort of liked Ashley. I can understand how coming from a big city like Chicago where people are much more open-minded to a small town where everyone seems kind of judgemental would be hard for her. She was a bit weird in her intense-ness about art, but the BSCers themselves were sort of obsessive about their own hobbies, so IDK.
And bell-bottoms were like flares only much larger...

I always liked Ashley, too... and reading "Claudia and the New Girl" always made me want to be an artist. I'm not really talented in that area, though.

LOL- I totally laugh about the bell bottoms thing now, considering how trendy they became in the late 90's/early2000s. When I graduated in 2000, super-massive flares were really "en mode"- so was anything 60's. Ashley Wyeth would have been the stylish one, not Claud and and her bizarreness.
But meh, this was the 80s- the more tapered and high-waisted the pants were, the better.
I kinda liked Ashley as well- I hate how the BSC were total bitzsnatches to Claud just because she got a friend who wasn't one of them.
