Since we know Mary Anne has some Russian-Jewish ancestors, I always assumed that Alma was a Hebrew name. There wasn't any indication that Mary Anne's grandparents were Jewish, but maybe if her mother had lived, MA might have had more of the culture in her upbringing. MA had Russian- Jewish ancestors?how do you know?

I think she says something about having Russian ancestors in Keep Out, Claudia. I could be wrong.

I had a classmate in high school named Alma. When we were working on a project, she said that she was a Muslim (she didn't wear the clothing that would tell someone that she was a Muslim) and that she was from the former Yugoslavia.
