I want to read this again soon...it's so hot and I just feel like reading about lemonade. Does anyone know if there is ever any mention of pink lemonade in the books?? That's my favorite kind. This is a weird post, I know I enjoy pink lemonade more, too! I don't think there is a mention in it in any of the books {but I could be wrong}. I know in this book, for instance, Karen uses the lemonade mix and gets it from Nannie. But in a recent book, maybe Karen's Movie, Kristy, Andrew and Karen all make lemonade using real lemons, sugar and water.

I just re read this book, as it's one of my favorites. I love books with stormy weather in them as well. I do want some lemonade now. It sounds really good

I have never read this book. I've read every single LS book up to this point, but there are quite a lot after #63 that I haven't read yet, although I own all of them. I'll read it soon, because everyone seems to like it a lot, and also I'm really in the mood right now for books with a summery feel.

I thought it was cute how when Karen first made her stand she made the lemonade one glass at a time and poured it into the pitcher because she didn't know how much a quart or a gallon was. It was a good problem-solving move.

I've read this now, and I think this is one of the LS books where Kristy is kind of mean to Karen. In BSC books, Kristy is indulgent even when Karen's being a brat, but in LS books, she doesn't always treat her very well. It was really petty of Kristy to ignore Karen and Hannie during a sitting job and refuse to play with them because she was angry that seven-year-olds had the attention span of seven-year-olds and were currently more interested in their lemonade and friendship bracelet stands than softball. It was actually mature of Karen to quit the Krushers temporarily because she realized she was spreading herself too thin at the moment. You'd think Kristy of all people might understand that a kid would be excited about her business enterprise!

^ I agree with you. But, at the same time, I try to remember that Karen and Kristy as sisters (step) and not just babysitter and sitting charge. So, in that respect, I can understand how the emotions of sibling relationships would come into play.

^I wonder if Kristy felt Karen had let her not the Krushers down. I am a Krushers fan but felt like their chapters in this book were to fill up space and/or cause the conflict between Karen and Kristy and not much else. I did like the Snowbound idea of this story though. I loved that unlike Claudia and Stacey in Empty House (with Carrot), Kristy brought all the Papadakis kids + pets over to her house once it was safe to do so. I also cheered that Watson tried twice to go over to check on Kristy himself. I would have preferred more about the storm (despite not being a fan of real-life thunder and lightning). Maybe some of the Krushers and Bashers could have "remembered" the summer storm in "Kristy and the Haunted Mansion." That would have been so cool. I did notice Kristy talked to a Basher named Jerry at the end and wonder if he was the same Jerry who likes to build forts with his best friend Bonzie? aka Jimmy.

I read this one last night and I will probably read it again over the summer (it's a great book to read when it's hot out). My favourite part, of course, was the STORM! It was so exciting, especially the part where Kristy, Linny, Hannie and Sari run over to the Big House to escape the storm. It must have been pretty bad! I'm moving to the thunderstorm capital of Canada so I'm excited for the big storms that are in store for me this upcoming summer.

I reread last night to warm up. Lol, that was a switch as during the summer, I had been reading wintry books to cool off. I really love this book and as you said MsStock, so cute how Karen and Hannie pretend they are pioneer girls and on Saturday cleaning up the prairie. I had the thought that we would have fun creating various stands to raise money for something. Maybe I just know how much fun it would be to browse at stands created by each of you. In this, loved that Karen bought paperback books from Jamie, yoyo from Matt, and something else I forgot...oh she played Buddy and Suzi's game of throwing a ball into a clown's mouth. I would have loved to read about all the booths. The other fairs were in Karen's County fair, brief mention in Karen's Monsters of a Halloween more event than fair and the health fair in one of the Logan books. Were there any others, not including my favorite Sudsy's, that I know was more of a carnival like Karen's Carnival?

I'm rereading this right now during the middle of a heat wave in a city that rarely has heat waves, so it's very apt!

A nice book, especially the simplicity of the ending (not that the kids had to give up their stands but they did start to miss softball plus Karen felt a little sorry for Kristy). Friendship bracelets indeed seemed like they wouldn't get a lot of customers, especially compared to lemonade and cookies. I could certainly relate to the heat troubles and interesting that the big house family had to do some bearing. Maybe Kristy was plain jealous, or at least pretty surprised, that the kids were being so successful.

Karen might want to be a meteorologist ("weather reporter") someday. I could see that, actually. My local ones are all nerdy and over the top. (I kept reading her weather lady's name (Margie Simon) as Marge Simpson.)
I was intrigued by her magic never-ending lemonade pitcher. She sold 15 cups at her first booth. Also, she was out there for three hours trying to sell hot lemonade, lol. Maybe the pitcher was insulated.
These rich-ass people who didn't own flashlights or a $10 box fan and had never opened the windows to their home before really annoyed me. The AC went out, so they quickly opened the windows. That would let the hot air in. Then at night they got a bug infestation from no-see-ums coming through the screen. I have never heard of that problem, but maybe they are a regional bug. Anyway, they made it sound like they were really slumming it without the AC. If Watson was really concerned about his toddler daughter and senior citizen mother-in-law then he could have sprung for a hotel room for a few nights.
I don't have kids, but my understanding is that sporting practices are very snack-heavy events. Meaning those kids would have their own snacks with them and not need lemonade every. single. day. The fair at the end raised "a few hundred dollars." Bobby must have been selling $5 cookies to go with Karen's 10 cent lemonade.

Karen's friends are copy cats. They saw how well Karen's stand was doing so they copied her. They didn't sell lemonade but some of the ideas were dumb. Nicky selling popcorn and Margo selling paper fans?? Who in their right mind would buy a paper fan when it's easier to make one yourself? But typical kids the novelty wore off. I don't blame Kristy for being mad. One bit. They were there to play softball not open some stupid paper fan stand!
But typical kids the novelty wears off when they get tired off it.
