In honor of the Jessi book thread, I thought I'd start one for Claudia. The book that comes to mind instantly is "Sad Goodbye." The BSC was not exactly known for being a well-written, deep series, but every once in awhile, you end up with a book that actually is those things. This was one of them.

^^^ I'm such a wimp. I actually in the library (discreetly) when reading this book. Believe it or not it's probably for me: Claudia's first thanksgiving- Don't remember the plot much but I liked the whole rebel-like behaviour over the non-p.c thanksgiving play.

I don't like claudia's sad goodbye very much because it's, well, sad.
I really like all of claudia's mysteries, plus the ones dealing with boy troubles.

I liked Claudia and the Terrible Truth. I didn't care for most of the Claudia books except maybe Claudia and the Great Search and some of her mysteries. But I have to reread those - maybe I just like them for nostalgic reasons.

I have to go old-school and say Claudia and the Phantom Phone Calls. Loved when they came up with that inane code for in case something went wrong during a sitting job, and then got the giggles when they tried to test it out. The whole mystery aspect appealed to me, and comparing it with later books, it was handled much better than others would eventually be. Also, I thought it was sweet how Claudia got her guy (isn't that an FF title, or similar to one? hmm), and for some reason, when I was little it cracked me up when the police officer said he would explain the proper use of the telephone to the boys. I'm easily amused.

I loved Claudia and the New Girl - so many snark-worthy moments and Ashley was fantastically written, even if she was a little unrealistic for a 13 yr old girl.

I think this is my favorite Claudia book, too. I really liked Ashley. Plus, the "Traitor! Traitor! Claudia, we hate 'er!" thing was awesome.

My favorite Claudia book is a tie. I liked Claudia and the sad goodbye, and Claudia and the terrible truth. I liked the books that touched on more serious issues.

i cant believe no one has mentioned Claudia and the Middle School Mystery yet! That was one of my fave books.
i loved how dumb claudia was in her ideas for getting shawna to confess to cheating. i hated that Clauds parents didnt believe that she didnt cheat at first (jerks) and how Mary Anne thought she cheated as well and how Kristy yelled @ her.
i also liked how Stacey and Dawn and Claudia broke into Shawnas locker. so bad ass. and Janine was great too.

The only thing that made me empathise with their position was the fact that initially, Claudia was prepared to take the F and urged them not to speak to the teachers. I would find it difficult to believe that an innocent person would react to such totally unjust circumstances like that.
However, I agree this book was great. I forgot about it for some reason.
