I just finished reading Mary Anne's portrait, and in the book, it says her mother was "sick" when she died. Does it say anywhere in the series what she died from? I always assumed she died in childbirth, but I guess this isn't the case. If someone could tell me, I would appreciate it, or at least tell me where it says more about it in the series.

I'm surprised Mary Anne wasn't a bit of a hypochondriac thinking she would get cancer too.

It was cancer. Alma got sick quickly and wasn't alive long after her diagnosis (which makes me thing it was a brain tumor).

I know this is a 7 year old thread, but MA's mom died from cancer. I'm curious what kind of cancer she had, and I'm surprised MA hadn't been concerned if she'd ever have cancer, too...

Mary Anne, mention that her mom died she was little girl. So, must be she was 5 and under, since she doesn't remember.

In MA Saves the Day, she mentions that her mom died 11 years ago, and she was 12 then, so she would've been a year old when her mom died.

It was cancer. Alma got sick quickly and wasn't alive long after her diagnosis (which makes me thing it was a brain tumor). I read in one book, I don't remember which one, that it was ovarian cancer, not brain cancer. And it was hinted that it was a complication from the chemo she was receiving.
