Elizabeth had a bedroom, Sam and Charlie had a bedroom, DM had a (tiny) bedroom, and Kristy had a room.

David Michael had a broom closet or something. That's never not funny to me.

A closet? Did DM have to sleep standing up? ;D

I found an article in the New York Times about new yorkers with tiny apartments and there was one about a family who converted a closet to a bedroom.

I hope DM wasn't claustrophobic, lol. That would be a little stinky sharing a tiny space with a dog if Louie slept with him at night.

It sounds like most of them were 4/5 bedrooms homes.

A larger closet could serve as a sleeping space, especially for a small child in a junior bed.

But it never said that DM's room WAS a closet, just that it was the size of one.
I think that giving your kid a room with no window is illegal.

I hope there isn't anything so nanny-state out there, but there probably is.

It varies from state to state, I assume. It's illegal because of fire-codes. I know we couldn't put another bedroom in our existing basement because there needs to be at least two exits to any room where children sleep. (One being a window -- it's fine if a ladder can reach).
I love trying to design the houses in the sims. I always give mimi a really small bedroom on the first floor, and a den/living room, a formal living room and a kitchen/dining area. Then I put four bedrooms upstairs, and a phone in the hallway.
Claudia's phone in her room always wakes her up though.

When I read the BSC books from Kristy's point of view, she always stated that David Michael's room was the size of a closet. I've never heard of a room being that small.

I assumed that Kristy was exaggerating and that the bedroom was very small, but not really closet-sized - maybe it just felt closet-sized.

That was my impression too. Plus some closets are bigger than my bedroom, so it all depends on the closet.

I had no idea that there were laws about bedroom windows. When I was younger, we were looking at moving to a house that would have given me my own room (yay!) but there were no windows (boo!). We ended up passing on that house....or they passed on us. Can't remember which...
