You know what I find weird? Dawn's the alternate officer, so most of the time she doesn't do anything at meetings. But everytime she does have to take over someone's duties for awhile, she's always relieved when it's over. She was sick of it after filling in for Claudia for like a week. But the VP doesn't actually do anything. What, did she pass around snacks? Yeah, but imagine what a b*tch it woulda been to find Claud's food in that room. It'd probably be the hardest job

Hee, good point. And since it's Dawn, she'd probably be retching the entire time at the thought of oreos--I mean, pimple-causing lard.

If she was substituting for Claudia, did she have to stay at her house to answer clients who call in during non-business hours?

^Well, that would entail actually moving into Claudia's house, so I'm guessing the answer is no!

Yeah, but those girls did go to some extremes sometimes to keep their 'clients' happy

Did Dawn ever have a legit boyfriend? All the other girls did, but Dawn never did. After reading Dawns Big Date, I started wondering why she was the one who never had a boyfriend. Even Jessi and Mallory had Quint and Ben! and Kristy had Bart. I guess Abby never had a guy, either, but she was barely there, anyway. Didn't it seem like Dawn went stag to a LOT of dances?!

I thought of this too. Maybe because Dawn kept chosing guys - like Travis - who were unattainable. Maybe it was to show her "individualism". I loved her with Lewis and wish he would have been mentioned in more books. Growing up, though, (and even now) I loved Dawn just for the reason that she didn't have a boyfriend and I could relate to that. As a kid, I assumed that she was fine with not having a boyfriend and didn't really care about it (this was what I could relate to - not that I didn't want one, just wasn't a priority and still isn't . Now I wonder if this is true. After all, she always had guys she liked. Something new and interesting for me to think about ...

Yeah, she had a big crush on that guy Price Irving and they went to one dance together. But then at the end she doesn't like him quite as much anymore. It seemed like she had high standards. Maybe the ghostwriters were predicting her move back to California, and thought it would be easier to not have to deal with Dawn saying goodbye to her parents, her friends, AND a boyfriend.

Maybe that's why she went back to California. She could never get a date unless she was outside of Stoneybrook. I don't mind that she didn't have a boyfriend either, but it's just kind of funny considering the mass amounts of dating her friends did. I mean, they never even mentioned SMS boys having crushes on her despite her being "drop dead gorgeous."

I never really noticed Dawn never having a boyfriend, but I think it was a good thing. I mean, it's fun to read about boys and stuff but I think if you're a kid reading that, you'll expect to have a fantastic boyfriend at 11/13, too. Which, most likely, isn't going to happen. I think it's smart that they kept 'cool' Dawn single and not 'nerdy' Mallory or 'shy' Mary Anne.

Totally agree Inge but never thought of it that way - going against stereotypes. I like that. But also agree with ktag that I'm surprised (hadn't thought of it until now, though) that it wasn't mentioned that boys had a crush on her. That would have made it even better because it would have showed that she was the one chosing not to have a boyfriend - maybe because of the high standards (which I can totally relate to

I agree with all of your points, aln! Since Dawn was soooo beautiful, it seems like she would have had guys falling all over her. It would have been cool to see her rejecting a guy (nicely) instead of completely changing herself to please him. Even though it's nice that at least one of the girls didn't have a steady boyfriend, I don't think they did it on purpose to make a statement or anything like that. Dawn had a lot going on without adding a boyfriend to the mix, so I think they mostly wanted to concentrate on her family drama rather than boy drama.

Hee, good point. And since it's Dawn, she'd probably be retching the entire time at the thought of oreos--I mean, pimple-causing lard. I just reread Dawn and the Impossible Three. It really reminded me about how much the ghostwriters changed Dawn. In one chapter she ate saltwater taffy. In another one she ate gummy worms. For the picnic she didn't even gag at the prospect of making brownies. I loved the old relaxed, cool Dawn.

I agree with lyricalangel and loved the old Dawn. Can't stand the "CA version" as I call her. Back to the earlier discussion about the boyfriends. Reading SS #1 right now and seeing another example of Dawn being obsessed with a boy. At least she didn't change herself for him. This just seems to go against the claim that Dawn is "independent" - another case of telling us about a character instead of showing us.
Edited to add: At the end of SS #1 I did like Dawn and Parker's relationship when they had a great time at the Magic Kingdom. I just don't like reading about "Dawn the stalker" like at the beginning of the book. I wish she would be more independent and secure when it comes to boys instead of always trying to get one to like her.

Dawn is my favourite sitter. I dunno what it is maybe her love of the beach, or her not really ever having a steady boyfriend, or her funny occasional bitchiness...but I seem to relate to Dawn more than the other sitters. Also, about Dawn often changing herself for guys, that does scream insecurity...although Dawn is supposed to be self confident and an (hehe) individual.
