What does everyone think of her? I like her, for the most part. She is the only character with a voice! There's discussion somewhere on this forum about how all the characters sound the same, but if you get to the Abby-narrated books, you can see that she actually *has* a personality and voice that's distinct from everyone else. I'm not sure how that happened...

I think that voice comes from the idea that she is supposed to be funny, so she takes a light-hearted, sarcastic attitude with her where ever she goes. I dunno. I think that there's already an Abby Stevenson thread but I think you (jen) brought up a new and interesting issue.

Oh, oops, so there is! Sorry! I had a look before I started this thread, but I must've missed it.

^ I thought it partly had to do with Abby being a new character and the fans getting to vote on her name. Maybe she had a distinct character in order to grab the interests of the fans. And the other characters didn't really need it because they already have a fan-base.

Did Ann write any of the Abby books? I thought they were all ghostwritten... Even more amazing!

I don't know, you'd think she'd have written Welcome to the BSC, Abby. I don't have this book so I can't check.

So the fans voted on Abby (and Anna's?) name, I vaguelly recall that. Anyone remember what the other choices were? Gosh had I been a bit younger when Abby was introduced (not sure how old I was, but I was born in 1983, so I wasn't reading BSC much by then), I would've probably suggested me and my sister's names since we're twins. LOL. How cool would that have been though if they were picked?

I remember reading somewhere that the working names of them (before the readers had voted) were Lucy and Ethel, from the I Love Lucy show. I think it was Ethel, anyway... whatever Lucy's best friend's name was.

Gosh, Ann sure wasn't going to let her I Love Lucy obsession go, was she?

there was no voting on the names per se; people wrote in with suggestions for names and the editors at scholastic picked the one they thought was best.

^ stupid. Why couldn't Ann (or whoever) just think of their own names? It's not like Abby and Anna are SOOO original or anything.

I know the girl twins in the series always have names that are alike - Myriah and Miranda (both M's) Schillaber , Marilyn and Carolyn. I dunno. I can't remember any other twins. Ugh.
