^ Yeah, I remember her Dad being a fan of the Grand Canyon. At the same time, I agree that it doesn't mean that Abby is an environmental activist. Why did Scholastic add that in? It kind of messes up my interpretation of Abby. I don't believe that she DOESN'T care about the environment, but that wasn't something brought up when her character was concerned.

I know this thread is SUPER old, but her environmentalism is brought up in her Book. Her whole family was like that. After her father died, they had trouble cleaning and Mrs. Stevenson thought about buying new clothes instead of doing laundry. Abby and Anna were disgusted by the wasteful nature of that.
Don't ask why I remember that because it's been over a decade since I read it. I guess it just stuck out to me. I have a feeling it was very important earlier in her life and became less important after her dad was gone (correct me if I'm wrong, I don't remember it being brought up in the series otherwise. Although I haven't read all her books... there are many gaps in the later series books for me).

Off the top of my head, Abby complains about air quality (like the wheeze wagon) because it exacerbates her asthma, but I don't remember comments about clean air for the sake of the environment. It did seem like their family was more fast-paced and metropolitan after they lost their dad. He must have been the one making the push and it was easier to not think about it without him.
I liked the story about the treehouse a lot, and I imagine spending time up there as kids made an impression.
