I always thought Mallory was rather pretty...like most of the BSC, she was going through an awkward phase.
I see ALL of the BSC, like most teenagers, having acne and really oily hair during freshman and sophomore years.

Mallory is pretty in her own way...get a nose job when she's eighteen or older... Mallory's nose was NOT that unusual, especially in Stoneybrook, where half of the residents have large noses. Stacey and Mary Anne themselves have huge noses, so I don't think Mallory's nose stood out. One thing I liked about the BSC series was that, unlike series like the Sweet Valley series, the characters were mostly not perfect-looking models. Sure, some of the BSC characters liked fashion, but the BSC girls were never vain and never let looks became a grand issue in their lives. They spent their time developing their minds and inner selves more than being too concerned with outer superficial appearances.

I think Mallory was always pretty, She’s just at that awkward stage of her life where that’s not how she perceives herself. I think her time at riverbend would help with her self esteem if anything.

I agree. If Mallory doesn't seem/feel pretty, I'd probably chalk that up to her age/taste vs actually being ugly. I just finished Claudia Kishi Live from WSTO, and there's a scene where Mallory is reading to her siblings, and Kristy mentions that her hair is pulled in a ponytail and she looked really nice. I think she would just need to grow up a bit and she would be super pretty. At 11, her taste in fashion still skews young.

Some people are ugly. She should just embrace it! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that, so she would find her people who were attracted to her.

She's a fictional book character. She can be whatever I want her to be.

She's a fictional book character. She can be whatever I want her to be. True...and you can write her as 'ugly' in your fanfic...but many of us agree that in book canon, she's not 'ugly.' 😁

Now that hair straighteners are common, I think she'd feel much better and be more confident!

Now that hair straighteners are common, I think she'd feel much better and be more confident! Probably...and appearences aside, once she realized her true talents and built a successful career, being pretty or not would be of little importance to her or her friends.

So all people who wear glasses are ugly? Thanks I wear glasses. I take offence at this whole post. Beauty comes from within and why are you Americans so hung up on looks?

It's not Mallory's glasses, although maybe she could rock different frames (I had trouble choosing frames because most of them cover my face). I just think Mallory hasn't grown into her looks yet. Even Claudia says in one book she'll be stunning once she does. Half my family were plain as kids, then grew up gorgeous. Also, look at the California Girls cover for this, but Mallory is gorgeous there, glasses and all. Not in spite of them.

Eh, Mal was probably adorable and no one knew it. I think in later books she was described as super cute by Claud and Stacey but “with braces.” Mal would have no problem today with her curly hair and oversized glasses. She would have many boys crushing on her

Agreed! I have black hair and dark brown eyes (which is super common among black people, Asians, Latinx people - so literally most of the world) and I have always thought red hair is unusual enough to be striking on its own. But red hair on a pretty girl is like magic. My best friend has red hair and when we were kids we used to want to switch, haha. So all people who wear glasses are ugly? Thanks I wear glasses. I take offence at this whole post. Beauty comes from within and why are you Americans so hung up on looks? I went back a few pages and didn't see anyone say that glasses make people ugly. They just said better fits or frames will help. I wear glasses and so do most people I know, so I know what it's like experimenting to find the right shape to fit your face. And I don't appreciate that accusation that Americans are hung up on our looks when so many Americans in this thread have defended Mallory's looks.

Most people don’t peak at 11. The odds of her looking better are in her favor. I have curly hair and wear glasses part time, and I’m cute as hell.
