Always seemed to be a reader-favorite, although I never saw the attraction, personally. She struck me as a snob and a b*tch, but also hopelessly naive (two examples; Stacey's Big Crush and Stacey and the Bad Girls) - however, the scene where she gave Kristy the smackdown in Stacey vs. the BSC has earnt her some respect from me. That and the fact that she had to give herself daily insulin injections. Oh ew!

I'll admit I am one of the many who called her my favorite as a kid. Thinking about it now, I have no idea why. I'm pretty sure she was the first one I read. I think Stacey is the most idealized character. She gets sympathy for the diabetes and divorce. I guess the 'cool' factor of NYC. She's supposed to be pretty and smart and sophisticated. Her only really bad qualities are that she turns moronic when cute boys are around and she can be pretty superficial, but you know tween girls eat that stuff up.

Aw, she's not a snob and a b*tch! Is she? She's horrible in Stacey vs. the BSC, and Stacey and the Bad Girls, but she never struck me as being awful the rest of the time. Laine, however, is a different story...

^ I guess her bad moments have really stuck in my mind, for some reason. I didn't like her in Stacey's Mistake. Okay, some of the BSC's antics were a little eye-rolling. But to claim to want to "die" within five minutes of seeing your best friend because she brought a suitcase with wheels?
And I totally agree about Laine. Turning on your best friend because she was diagnosed with diabetes?

Oh, I forgot about her in Stacey's Mistake. You're right; she was a b*tch in that one. I was just rereading Stacey's Lie, and she's not very nice in that either. Served her right when Robert sort-of-almost broke up with her!

i loved how she wanted the floor to swallow her up or something when kristy ordered the fillet mignun. like get over it, no big deal, just laugh.
yeah, stacey was a snob, how many times did she have to mention being from new york. but i think thats what made her interesting. that and the fact that she had 50 boyfriends.
and i liked stacey in stacey vs. the bsc. like they were sorta freaky, not letting her hang out with other friends and dawn was a stalker. what a psycho.

They let her hang out with other friends! They were angry at her for not honouring her BSC commitments! I took the BSC's side in that book. Although Dawn stalking her was a bit weird.

the reason I like Stacey is BECAUSE she's a snob! Its funny. Plus, she's practically the only one who ever steps outside the BSC for friends, etc and I like that as well.
She WAS cooler than the rest of them, you all know it.

I love Stacey! Her snobbiness just adds to the appeal, IMO. She is such a drama queen, it's awesome. I can definitely see why she would be a younger girl's favorite, with the sophistication, the fashion-sense, and NYC thing going for her. I thought she was great.

She WAS cooler than the rest of them, you all know it. She let us down in Stacey and the Bad Girls, though, when she became this naive, prissy, Mary Anne-like geek. In reality, a girl like that would probably have succumbed to peer pressure.

What's Stacey's obsession with "the B-word"? It's not like other people like seeing someone barf, what makes her so special? Her friends not only know, but take it upon themselves to divert any signs of queasiness away from her. If it has something to do with her diabetes, they should say so. Otherwise, it comes off like she's too sophisticated to deal with vomit.

Well, I guess different people have different "phobias" - for lack of a better word. While I don't enjoy seeing someone barf, it doesn't cause me to practically have convulsions. However, seeing a snail makes me dry-retch, I find them absolutely DISGUSTING, whereas most people might not think they're lovely, but are more "whatever" about them. Like I could never understand the BSC's obsession with injections. I don't find them remotely gross.

How about Kristy's fear of lightning? I think her reasoning behind it is legit. She doesn't want to get killed, even though the odds of her getting hit is not very high. And Stacey might have to overcome her fear of vomit if she wants to maintain her figure later in life . Her being into looking good and all.

;D classic...
No, Stacey's diabetes also has the convenient side effect of ensuring she keeps a slim figure. Goes against the stereotype, but meh.

Sort of off topic... It really bugged when Stacey's diabetes kept changing! At the start, she was really strict with her diet, and the amount she ate, and when she ate and all that. But then later, she eats anything that Claudia throws at her as long as it doesn't have sugar. ?!
