Total word. Claudia was expected to provide food for seven people three times a week? FFS, didn't those girls parents teach them any manners?
I guess they did have some strange values though, Kristy's parents paid her to take Karen and Andrew trick or treating on Halloween in Kristy's Mystery Admirer and heaven forbid those girls would watch their brother or sister for an hour or so without charging.

I have never thought of Claudia as someone who would be an amazing great artist someday either, even though she was apparently so great she won honorable mentions for unfinished projects. Not because she was bad, but because it's such a difficult world to get into if you're not truly amazing. If she would've spent so much time on her art as her 'friend' in number 12, maybe she could have been really great. It's really not that hard to break into the art world. a lot of art that goes for hundreds, thousands of dollars sucks. the art world is mostly about connections.

I have a hard time believing Claudia is this amazing artist at age 13 -- not so much because she isn't talented, they do make it clear that she has some sort of intuitive artistic vision, but she does TOO MUCH. Paints, draws, sculpts, etc. Which isn't to say that she won't someday hone her skills and become a great painter or a great scultor (sculptress?! would AMM say?), but at this point she seems very undeveloped.
I also randomly hated how they tried to make her this awesomely serious-business artist and she MADE JEWELRY. They always add that to the list and for some reason it always makes me roll my eyes and discount everything else. I don't really know why.

Don't know why I thought of this today, but I wondered if the club paid a set amount (like, say $10) for the phone bill each month or if they paid something like half no matter what the bill was. In other words, did they end up paying for stuff like Claudia's calls to Stacey in NYC and her search for her fake real parents? Cause if they did I might forgive them a little for not chipping in for junk food.

In some books, they say that Stacey figures out how much of it to pay. Though really, it doesn't make much sense, because it's not as if local calls cost extra. They basically only use the phone for an hour and a half each week. Claudia'd be better off if they paid her for the snacks.

Perhaps Claudia's smarter than we give her credit for.

Maybe she is stuffing her friends' faces with snacks, so they can eat themselves stupid and not become wise to Claudia's little scheme of sticking them with a share of her phone bill that is larger than what they actually have to pay? Or maybe she just feels guilty, so she gives them snacks for compensation?

A ha! So Claudia is actually a genius and just pretends to be dumb to get stuff! That would help explain a lot.

I never imagine Claudia as a great artist either, mostly because whenever they show a drawing or painting that she did (like in New York, New York), they always suck.

kinda OT but what the heck does FFS mean? For Fucks Sake? I just thought of that and now I'm thinking I may be correct. Context clues and all Yeah, it means For Fucks Sake. But it's a bit rude to write in full, ya know ;D
