^ Yeah, I would have rather had her be paired up with someone a little bit more boring like Pete Black. I mean, Logan's being into sports seemed like it was just thrown in there. At least she could work with Pete's characteristics to develop him.

^^about the Pete Black thing. I've never really thought about them as a couple. Actually, I've never really thought about Pete as much of a character- just some guy they used whenever they needed a guy in the series. I did like how they worked together in No. 46 though. Didn't they try to set her up with Pete in FF No. 3? I've always hated it when they did that. It was soo obvious! Maybe that's why it didn't work.

Did they ever mention how her mother died? It wasn't from giving birth, so...? Just curious.

I think she had cancer or something. She didn't die the moment Marry Anne was born, she died when she was a few months old.

I think I just read that she had cancer. It might have been in Kristy's Great Idea. I know for sure, though, she didn't die while giving birth because she wrote MA a letter and knew she was dying (in MA and the Secret in the Attic)

^^It was cancer- although they never specified what kind of cancer. I love the picture MA has of her mother holding her in her Portrait book. That was so sweet.

ahh okay I just got done reading the FF book Welcome Home, Mary Anne, and it made me love MA even more! I LOVED her in this book. She's a better character in the FF series in general, I think. She's still shy and sweet, but she doesn't seem as meek for some reason. She just comes off as more mature and secure. I guess that's the difference I'm noticing, she doesn't seem so insecure. That's the one thing I never liked about MA. They made her sensitivity and shyness into such a horrible thing. She was SO insecure and she had no reason to be. I think she would have the potential, if she came out of her shell a bit, to be very well-liked in school. You know, the sweet girl who everyone likes and can flit around from group to group and be accepted. Now that I think about it, I think her friendship with Kristy really hindered her. She never had a reason to stand out and honestly, if she had tried, Kristy would've squashed her right away, like in Mary Anne's Makeover.

Yeah I think she did have a secret crush on him. It continues in Kristy for President when she says that he's not so bad and that she saw his other side. Everytime Kristy said he wouldn't be a good president, she pouted

About the pronounciation of her last name. It is Spy-er. Not Speer. My last name is the plural of hers and it is definitely Spy-ers and not Speers. It has been for generations.
I like Mary-Anne because I was shy and quiet and like cats and reading.

But, in the movie and tv show they always said "speer." Maybe it's meant to be pronounced "speer" but Ann spelled it wrong to start with.

Also the whole "Spier rhymes with cheer" thing in one of the books and Claudia mispelled her name in Kristy's Worst Idea over the phone as S-P-E-E-R.

I think it was in "Stacey and the Cheerleaders" when she was like 'Mary Anne's last name is Spier- but it rhymes with "cheer" or something. I highly doubt they'd get her name wrong in the movie. I, too, thought it was "Spy-er" until I read that.

Well then they should have spelled it Speer because otherwise it doesn't make sense.
Don't mind me I'm just bitter because people have been butchering my last name for 27 years.

Well then they should have spelled it Speer because otherwise it doesn't make sense. I agree, they should have spelled it Speer or Spear. I was saying "spy-er" up until a few months ago when my older sister corrected me. The only reason she knew it was "speer" is because my neice's teacher has the same last name. For some reason I never caught it when they said it in the movie, or when Claudia made her spelling mistake.
