Did you notice in some books, Ann would have a lot of fetishes about certain things that he threw into her books all the time. I remember the The Wizard of Oz being mentioned a million times, as well as The I Love Lucy Show. Do you remember any others?

A lot of people seem to think it's weird that music from the '50s and '60s is mentioned so often, but I never really thought it was weird. A lot of kids are familiar with music from earlier decades because of their parents playing it, and sometimes they enjoy it, too.

Definitely I Love Lucy. God, those references popped up EVERYWHERE! But also, all of the girls seemed to like little kid movies a lot. Mary Poppins and The Parent Trap came up quite a bit.

Yeah, there's like a hundred I Love Lucy mentions. The Twilight Zone was mentioned several times as well whenever something creepy was going on. Dee Dee Dee Dee Dee Dee Dee Dee or however the hell they wrote it. Anything mentioned in her biography at the end of the books. She would be Mallory's favorite author.
I don't think it's weird that they know and like oldies. It's just a little odd that they reference it so much more than U4Me or whatever. I know it's a fake band, but they're 13 year old girls. Shouldn't there have been more than just Mary Anne gushing over Cam Geary?

Ice cream. Everyone was obsessed with it. That and hot chocolate, I can't believe how much of the stuff they had!! Also ITA with whoever said NYC. Ann thinks it's the greatest place on earth.

She apparently also had an aversion to one injecting oneself. When I was little, I thought I was, like, an uncivilized beast for not being disgusted by it.

Oh, yeah, ice cream is definitely one of her obsessions. That was in the "about the author" info at the back of the earlier books, right? "She loves the beach, I Love Lucy, and ice cream, and she hates to cook."

In Mary Anne's portrait, she tells her Grandma that she hates cooking (like Ann M Martin) and yet throughout the series she goes on and on about how she cooks dinner all the time and how she likes cooking "Schafer/Spier" style.

Cats! Doesn't her about the author bit say she lives with her cats? Then she turned Mary Anne into this crazy kitten-lover and Kerry Bruno into a cat-stealer.

AMM's biography describes some vacation she took with her friends and mentions how she used tons of details from it in one of her non-BSC books. I guess she did it in ALL of her books, including Mallory Pike, #1 Fan, apparently.

Ann seemed to have an aversion about lots of things... she HATED the prospect of anyone eating food that had fallen on the floor (not that it's the nicest thing, but the books were all about little children and toddlers FFS!) Oh yeah, she definitely loves cats. She seems to like all animals quite a lot, though. Particularly horses and dogs.
