I've still never seen I Love Lucy. I don't get why they've never aired it here. It used to be on years ago, at about 6pm on ABC - like, around the time when I was originally interested in the BSC! I tried to watch it because of how much the girls seemed to love it, but it just seemed too old and boring for me. It's probably on Fox Classics now, if you have Foxtel... although not exactly sure.

I have watched " I love Lucy" before and couldn't find much interest in it. To each their own I guess.

My sister and I watched a couple of episodes on tv over xmas break, and actually laughed quite a bit. But for the most part it doesn't hold my interest. I remember finding it so boring/old-fashioned/unfunny when I was really little!

I like it, but I have a soft spot for all old tv shows. Does anyone else remember the All In The Family diss? I think Mary Anne and Dawn were talking about and agreeing how they both hated it. Or something like that.

I definitely remember Dawn and Jeff saying that they hated it and debating on why the hell they're watching it.

^ Actually, I think it was a rerun of "All in the Family" that they were watching, not "I Love Lucy." I'm pretty sure this happened in #9, so I'll ahve to back and check. I could be wrong!

California - For someone who was obsessed with CA, she sure didn't know too much about it. It CRACKS ME UP that Palo City was a mainly white town, because you're never going to find that here. FFS, I'm the only blonde in most of my classes.

^ Yeah, that's what greer said, that they were watching All in the Family. Then why in the world did I read "I Love Lucy?" And why did I forget half the words that should have been in my post? I think I'm losing it....

The names and tv shows and popular culture Ann uses often seem outdated to me - like she's using stuff from when she was young instead of from when the books were written. I wish she would have used some more pop culture from "my era" (the late '80s and early '90s) other than just the clothes descriptions. I would love now to read about tv shows that I used to watch or read about characters with names that were popular then.

I think one of the only current shows I ever remember reading about was Charlotte's love of The Cosby Show. There were so many shows of that time that I loved. I'm such an 80s nut!

Shouldn't they have been babysitting for a lot of Jessica's, Jennifers, and Kaitlyn's in the late 80's? And shouldn't there have been at least 2 sitters named Heather?

Thought the exact same things with names. Stacey and Jessica were pretty common, Kristen and Abby too, but the charges sounded like middle aged people or senior citizens.

Christopher and Brian were pretty popular boys names.

I don't have a problem with Ann's lack of pop-culture references. I think it gives the books a more timeless feel... you can imagine them taking place in present time (if you ignore some of the fashions!), but if it was full of 80s references they'd feel just too dated imo. I always wondered about some of the name choices. Karen? Nancy? Marilyn? Carolyn?
