Just re-read this one (doing a re-read of all the CDs because I haven't been feeling great so why not). It's honestly a pretty good start. I do think that the 8th graders switching to the high school building is very contrived... I understand that AMM had to make it possible for the series to be more mature, but it feels silly. I think since the schools are so close anyway, it's not totally out of the question for Sunny to start going to high school parties and stuff, with Maggie, Dawn, and Amalia following suit. Idk, it's just so unrealistic the way it was done.
I really feel for Jill. There's nothing wrong with liking "kid" things. I was the same way! Not nearly as girly (so I gravitated towards things like Legos instead), but you get the idea. I do think it's okay that they drifted apart, but it felt like she was getting unfairly blamed. Carol was the real immature one here. I liked her in California Girls, but not this.
This review makes me sound like I didn't like it. I actually did like it lol, once I got over the school building thing. The party plot was fun and I think it did a good job of introducing Ducky and Amalia.
