I always pictured Laine spinning way out of control....but I think it's totally lame that they portrayed her that way. Everyone that wasn't right for the BSC was either too tough and on a path to nowhere (Laine, Stacey's friends when she dared to leave the club) or too dorky (Tess, the girl from Claudia and the World's Cutest Baby).

I feel really bad for Mallory in this one. Byron takes over for her (even though I love that he's the brother the younger kids can look up to. He's my favorite triplet). Vanessa is super salty and nobody seems to listen to her. I'm glad that Mallory was able to help with the website and the sitters listen to her. You can really tell that she's becoming more confident and her own person.
Maureen is just awesome, I really wish that we saw more of her store opening. She's one smart lady and I can imagine it being successful.
As for Laine, I agree with stolenbooks, Laine does really seem like the type to spin out of control.

I really liked this one! Someone else mentioned that it doesn't have much of a plot, and I guess it doesn't. But I like Stacey in here a lot more than in the rest of FF. I was surprised that she handled Ed and Samantha's engagement so well (given how she reached to Samantha moving in in Everything Changes), but it was kind of nice to read. Samantha is very likable.
It's realistic that Maureen would be emotional about the engagement. Also, technically, it hasn't even been a year since they've gotten divorced! I'm glad that Maureen stays single throughout the series. Not everyone needs to be paired up.
Mallory sounded sort of whiny in the beginning, but I get it. And I get how she feels she doesn't belong (totally relatable). I'm glad that once she settled in more, she was more assertive. I never thought of her as a leader type, but Stacey makes a good point. Can't say I liked the other Pike kids much in this (especially Vanessa), but maybe their behavior is realistic?
The run-in with Laine was another highlight. I like that Stacey realized the two just don't relate anymore. Laine was pretty judgmental of Claud... I thought she did like her, but in this book, she says she never liked her (Stacey also says that she and Laine just drifted apart because she moved to Stoneybrook. No, Laine was just a jerk). I do really like that she said Jeremy sounded like a jerk. She was right about one thing at least.
I love the chapter where the girls watch dating videos and "rate" the guys. Kristy's reactions were so off-the-wall (what was up with that bald guy rant?!) that I just had to laugh. I really wished Abby was there, but the chapter was very entertaining nonetheless. I like seeing the former BSC members (well, I think Mal is still an honorary member?) in these books.
It's cool that Maureen decides to open a clothing store. She notes that she can't hire Stacey's friends because it's against child labor laws. Since when was that a thing in the BSC verse? Lol. Kristy also says that this is the most exciting thing to happen since the BSC started. Really, Kristy? Don't get me wrong, starting your own business is great, but I would say a trip to Europe is more exciting. Or the 110 weddings they attended. Or the mysteries (Cat Burglar was so exciting it ended the mysteries). Come on, Kristy.
Overall, I like this one. The title isn't very fitting, but whatever. I think it's a good last book for Stacey, since it sort of sets up her future (with helping at her mom's store and spending time with Samantha). It gets a solid 7.

Re Maureen being single: I appreciate that she didn't stay single out of spite or man-hating. She dated and just didn't want to settle.

Re Maureen being single: I appreciate that she didn't stay single out of spite or man-hating. She dated and just didn't want to settle. Me too. I think her criticisms of John were valid, and I think she enjoys being single. Somehow, I don't imagine her remarrying, and I like that, because single parents are kind of rare in this series.
