We all know that Dawn moved back to California permanently in Farewell, Dawn. But I would like to know what you guys think of what Dawn would do if Jack died. If he died, would Dawn remain in California with Carol, Jeff and Elizabeth Grace or would she move back to Connecticut? Also, did Carol ever adopt Jeff and Dawn because if she didn't, wouldn't they have to move to Connecticut?
Personally, I'm not sure. I think it could go either way. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Dawn moved to Connecticut to grieve before moving back to California to live with Carol.

I think she'd rather live with her mom than Carol.

Dawn and Jeff would have to move back in with Sharon unless both Sharon and Carol agreed to let them live with Carol. I don't think Carol would have any legal rights regarding the kids. She couldn't have adopted them unless Sharon signed away her parental rights, and Sharon most definitely didn't do that.
I don't know where Dawn would want to live if Jack died. Her dad was just one of many reasons why she wanted to move back to CA so I can see her staying there if she was allowed to.

Like someone says, to adopt your husband's kids requires the birth mother to sign away parental rights, and Sharon won't do it.
I imagine if Jack died there would be either some sort of very creative legal wrangling (a legal guardian type of a thing? Would the courts even do it if the birth mother is in CT?) to get Dawn to stay in California or Sharon could put her foot down and say that Jeff and Dawn join her in CT.

If Dawn and Jeff truly wanted to stay in CA, I think Sharon would let them. I can't see Dawn or Jeff ever allowing Carol to adopt them though. That would be a big WTF.

I think that Dawn would rather live with her mom than Carol, but she'd rather live in CA than CT. It would be a tough choice, but I'm guessing she'd be in CT, at least for awhile. If it were me in that situation, the people I ended up with would be more important than the place at first. After that, I don't know. Maybe Dawn would just continue to bounce back and forth forever.

Maybe she'd finish out HS in CT and then go to college in California?

Well, in graduation day she says she'd love to go east for college. But in this situation we're talking about, I'd imagine Sharon would convince them to go back east, 'just for now'.

I don't. I think Sharon would have them both come and live at home with her, and let them go to College in California. I'm sure they could both visit occassionally, but I don't think for one second she'd let them live out there without a parent. And Carol isn't their parent.

Depressing question, but it does make me wonder. I think Dawn would start hating Carol again and move back to Stoneybrook and be depressed She was definitely a daddy's girl, and I could imagine the kind of affect it would have on her.

I think she'd go back to CT for sure, and Jeff would come too... and Carol and Gracie might come as well, who knows? But I think Dawn would want the support network of her mom, Mary Anne, the BSC, and her grandparents... at least for a little while.

Depending on when it was, I think, she'd either go off to college or back to Stoneybrook.

She might consider buying or renting her own house or apartment to live by herself or with Jeff.

^ But what if Jack dies before Dawn and Jeff can live out in their own? Then again I wouldn't be surprised if Dawn rented an apartment...it's the BSC after all! (Laine DID have a job as something-I-forget in New York)

^ A 13 year old renting an apartment. I can read it now.
Dawn: I rent an apartment, in California. After my dad died. I'm so sad about this. I'm angry with Carol. My mom wants me to moved to Connecticut. As if. With my baby-sitting money. I'm renting a cheap apartment. That's the only way, 13 year old can afford. It's run down, but its better than living with Carol or the state of Connecticut. I might need a second job. Probably Claire's or working at the public pool.
