^I had been wondering recently if Kristy had a “team” in baseball. Thanks for the info!

This is funny because Abby doesn’t seem like a big reader or like she’d know that many authors, but maybe I’m underestimating her.

^I had been wondering recently if Kristy had a “team” in baseball. Thanks for the info! Definitely in Kristy and the Missing Fortune she mentions watching the Mets on TV and I think she later says if she gets the fortune, she'd get Mets season tickets with it. In Karen's Big Weekend, she and her family see Guys and Dolls on Broadway. I remember in the thank you letter to Lisa and Seth she says she'll name her next doll Nicely Nicely Johnson after the character. When my high school did Guys and Dolls, I definitely remembered her saying that XD

the lion king is mentioned in mary anne and the silent witness. one of the moms had bought the soundtrack for their kids. it was shocking to see mary anne arrive at a sitting job to kids singing along to the lion king instead of annie or fiddler on the roof.

The Little Mermaid is mentioned in a super mystery and I was surprised but it also seemed super late to me, since the super mysteries were written close to when the series ended.
Oh, it’s also mentioned in Dawn’s Big Date.

I saw on the wiki that someone started to add a pop culture section on the book pages.

Do we know who the wiki admins are? I wouldn't be surprised if they were board members at some point.

In Kristy's Great Idea, Rainbow Brite dolls and G.I. Joes were mentioned. Also, Claudia read a book called "Where the Wild Things Are". In Claudia and the Phantom Phone Calls, The Muppet Show was mentioned (Nina's favorite TV show). In The Ghost at Dawn's House, Sixteen Candles, Ghostbusters, Star Wars, Mary Poppins, and The Parent Trap are mentioned. In Poor Mallory, a Skipper doll was mentioned (Claire had been wanting one). In FF #2: Stacey VS. Claudia, The Poltergeist (movie) was mentioned. In MA's Bad-luck Mystery, the movie Pollyanna was mentioned. I also remember the Cabbage Patch Kids dolls were mentioned a couple of times. Plus, Barbie dolls. Sesame Street and Mr. Roger's Neighborhood were mentioned. And, of course, there were tons of Mary Poppins, Parent Trap, and Jason Priestly references. Hayley Mills, Bradd Pitt, Johnny Depp were also mentioned. The Watsons, Gilligan's Island, Leave It to Beaver, The Brady Bunch were mentioned. Plus Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson were mentioned.

In Claudia and the Middle School Mystery Claudia wears a pair of earrings that she describes as looking like Princess Di's. Karen has a Donald Duck nightlight and in Karen's Worst Day Andrew is sent video tapes of Lady and the Tramp and the Secret of NIMH in the post. Gabbie and Myriah Perkins also have an Cabbage Patch doll in Logan Likes Mary Anne.

Pretty sure the G.I. Joe reference was changed to Spider-Man in the 2010 reprint.

Do you know if pop culture references changed in the reprints? I'd be interested to find out. I haven't read any reprints, but now I'm keen to. I know some things were changed for the British versions, particularly types of candy/lollies etc., so maybe... I'll have to find some new copies from the library and investigate!

I haven't read any reprints, but would they really still have I Love Lucy references? It was already off the air for 30 years when the series was new. Girls reading the books now would be like three generations too young.

Girls reading the books now would be like three generations too young. I feel like I Love Lucy is one of those iconic series that is still known, at least by name only. My mom's a huge fan so I knew about it growing up. Reruns are still on tv and it streams on Paramount+! Now Stacey's mom mentioning Tommy Dorsey (I think that was it?), I don't think girls reading the books now would know that!

I don’t think girls 30 years ago would know who Tommy Dorsey was! Lol, I had to look him up. He was a jazz trombonist who died in 1956.
