Let's play treasurer for a bit and get a glimpse of how they manage their budget.
Dues day is $1 per member if I'm not mistaken. So that's 28 dollars a month, just where does it go and the leftover would not seem like enough for a pizza party IMO.
Isn't it like 1 dollar for each day Charlie drives Kristy back and forth? if so, then Charlie is getting $12 a month, Claudia probably about $10 a month if not more, and that leaves about 6 dollars for kid kit materials, and new notebooks and record books. I'll bet their pizza parties aren't even that often.
Anyone wants to break it down better or if anything is off?

Yeah, it is a dollar a day for Charlie to drive Kristy. They always mention that part of the money goes to "help" pay Claudia's phone bill, which implies that someone else (Mr. and Mrs. Kishi, most likely) pays the rest. I definitely agree that it doesn't seem like there would be much left over for the pizza parties or even Kid-Kit materials.

I wonder how they manage to hold all those functions for kids, although I know they asked for donations for some of them or everyone volunteered to bring their own stuff eg. props, instruments, gifts etc.

How often do they buy a new record book? I assumed it was a yearly planner sort of thing. I know we can't seem to decide exactly what the club notebook was, but that was probably very cheap and only needed to be replaced every few months. That leaves kid kit stuff and they mostly used their own used stuff for those. Crayons or a sheet of stickers don't cost that much. Plus everything in Stoneybrook is dirt cheap. Maybe they don't give Claudia that much for her phone. (I wouldn't. They used it for 1 1/2 hours a week with local calls. Sorry, Claud.) If Stacey really was as cheap as she was made out to be, then maybe they did have a little more money to play around with.

I was always wondering about this too! What I also didn't get was whenever they did one of their little activities with the kids, they seemed to always buy everything new. Like in Mary Anne and Camp BSC, they mention buying art supplies and sports equipment. You mean to tell me that Claudia doesn't have any extra crayons and paper lying around, and Logan and Kristy can't donate some wiffle balls and bats or a soccer ball or something for the duration of the camp and save a few bucks?

^ yeah seriously, right? Unless they used money out of their own pocket, which I highly doubt, considering they don't make much.

^ If they used money from their own pocket they wouldn't have ANY left over! Seriously, those girls worked for pennies, even by 80's standards.

lol no wonder they were so popular, they charged like nothing!
When did the amount they paid Charlie go up? In The Ghost at Dawn's House, Dawn said they paid Charlie 50 cents. When I did this book on bsc_snark, someone looked up how much Charlie would have made by today's standards, by factoring inflation in. So Charlie making 50 cents in 1988, would come out to about 90 cents today. If gas is that cheap in Stoneybrook, count me in!

^ He charged them 50 cents each way, so that's why it comes out to a dollar per day. Wonder if he charged them for all the other times he hauled them around - like to the mall, to the graveyard on Halloween, Jessi's special dance rehearsals, etc. He should have - he certainly carted them around town enough! I can't picture a real-life 17-year-old brother being so generous.

well charlie inspired me to be a generous 25 year old big sister with a junky car too I always wondered about that too, and how on earth all 7 girls fit into the junk bucket on their way to dance class. And lmfao @ the graveyard 'CHARLIE GET BACK IN THE CAR"!!!

I guess Charlie could have been a bit of a jerk and insisted they pay him more or he wouldn't chauffer Kristy around anymore, but he never did. Even Karen notes in LS many times how agreeable and laid-back Charlie is. I feel bad for him when I read snarky comments in the BSC communities about how he must have no life. I think he was just a pretty caring big brother.

^ Maybe being such a caring big brother comes from the fact that he was the oldest kid and for many years, the Thomas kids didn't have a father figure. So Charlie stepped into that role somewhat.

I really get that impression about Charlie. Karen says he doesn't like to hurt people's feelings and he's generally as sweet as can be.
