I made my dad buy Frookies and Mallomars. I did not try to hide them in my room, though.

in line with the whole "omg i have diabetes thing," which I also experienced, I also wished my parents would get divorce so I could have a cool blended lifestyle like stacey, kristy, and dawn. then it happened and uhh it actually wasn't that cool.

Claudia outfits. I totally tried to imitate her, and my outfits were simply hilarious. When I was in third and fourth grade I had also really long hair, which I often kept in a sideways ponytail or begged my mom to braid it to million little braids. I tried to imitate Claudia's handwriting, too. It was pretty weird, because Claudia's handwriting isn't cool or anything. It was just because it was Claudia's handwriting, and I was such a wannabe-Claudia... I also had that "OMG I've got diabetes"-thing. And I kinda wished for having diabetes too. Stupid me. And when I got to know one of my friends when I was in seventh grade and learned that she has diabetes, I immediately thought of Stacey. I never wanted my parents to divorce thought, but I wondered whether I'll live with my mom or dad if they would do so. (And would my mom or dad live in a cool place where I could visit like Dawn and Stacey...) And ages 11 and 13 seemed OLD for 9-year-me. Later, when I started to use Internet, I used Claudia or Claud as my nickname in a lot of boards and stuff. It's kind of a tribute for my childhood times' idol.

While shopping for this past holiday season I often saw stuff that various club members would like. Heh. Not that I'm crazy enough to buy presents for fictional characters, but if I were then Stacey and Mallory would definitely be the easiest to shop for

The BSC basically shaped my views of New York and California for years.
In fourth grade, we each got to pick a state and make a little booklet on it, highlighting various landmarks and et cetera. I got New York. However, I mostly focused on New York City- Ann M. Martin's version, that is. Any other kid would have included illustrations of the Statue of Liberty or the Empire State Building in their project. What did I draw a picture of?
Bloomingdales.
Thanks to the BSC, I honestly thought that Bloomingdales was a major landmark of the city. I'm sure my teacher thought I was nuts.

I basically did everything that was mentioned, I thought I was diabetic every time I got thirsty, tired etc. I also hid candy in my room pretending to be Claudia. I never realized how much I tried to imitate them until now. heh

And also, I read in one book about how Dawn leans foward and brushes her hair underneath rather than on top. So I tried it once. It made my hair even booffier than usual, and it took ages because I had to keep stopping because I got dizzy. " lol I still do this, at least I do when my hair is long enough to do it

Oh my lord....all the weird crap I did because of the BSC. You got an hour? LOL Let's see. Count me in with the Diabetic Symptoms Watchers. I actually told my mom I thought I had diabetes when I was, like, 9. She asked me why I thought that and I told her it was because I was thirsty. I went through a phase of hiding my Nancy Drew books, although it was completely unnecesary because my mother couldn't have cared less whether I read them or not. I went around with a hard boiled egg for a week after reading Mary Anne and Too Many Babies Many an afternoon was spent with me and my best friend checking our houses for secret passages. Thanks, Dawn! One time I made my mom buy hummus (is that how you spell it?) after I saw it in the grocery store because I read some BSC book or another where one of Dawn's healthy foods was hummus. My mom has never let me live that down. And I remember when my mom was pregnant with my younger brother (I was 9 at the time), I constantly referred to him as a "Stinky diaper pail" because in Baby-Sitters Remember, Jessi says something similar about Squirt. My parents were not amused. I still call him that sometimes though, 10 years later ;D

I love hummus. This is a great thread, I thought of a few more things I used to do because of the BSC... - tried to make egg creams because of Jessi and Quint in NY, NY - kept a little detective's notebook like the one Charlotte has in Stacey and the Mystery Money - drew pictures of bags of chips and Milk Duds like Claudia for her junk food art show. That one got boring rather quickly!

Just of the top of my head -I wore different colored socks on each foot al'la Claudia (like if I had a red shirt and blue pants I'd have on one red sock and one blue sock. In fact I remember this one outfit I had, blue pinstripe pants with suspenders and a red shirt with a blue teddy bear on it, complete with the socks and of course 4 braids in my hair and one peace sign earing in one ear and a star shaped earing in the other. I thought I looked just like Claudia. -I tried to use big words in everyday conversation (because I thought Janine was cool). When I realized Mary Anne and Dawn where Stepsisters (I never read the books leading up to or about that when I was a kid, and I skipped chapter 2 alot, so I didn't know for a while) I told my best friend they where "Siblings in some relation". I was so happy when she asked me what I meant and I told her and she said "duh, I can't believe you didn't know that. Also in one of the videos Janine says "I capitulate" and says "It means I give up". So me, miss-hearing the word, said "I conjugate" when I meant "I give up". I guess people thought I was exasperated I was going to have at it with some verbs. I know that really confused my mom. -I also really wanted to see 16 Candles and when I finally did I was shocked that Mary Anne would like a movie where people swear and get felt up by their Grandmothers. not to mention that like most of you I thought (OK I still think) OMG! Diabetes! everytime I get thirsty and I dotted my i's with little hearts until middle school and did the "stacey a's" until college. -OK and this one is really lame, and probably not totally BSC related, but I didn't want to appear too smart (except using big words I guess) because my friend would lay this guilt trip on me for doing better than she did on a test saying I was "a brain" and she was "dumb like Claudia" or something so I would purposely miss questions on tests and homework in 3rd and 4th grade. I know really lame.

Never did manage to find a place that sold them and wasn't closed. It sucked.

In California Girls, when Claudia goes on her date with Terry, she describes the small booth they sat at as "intimate". I remember thinking this was an actual term for a small table at a fancy restaurant. Like you'd make your reservation and ask for an intimate.

I also thought that, lauren. I don't know if it was just too subtly written for a kids' book or what.
