Just noticed in Dawn and Too Many Sitters where Robert cancels at the last minute when he is supposed to go to the movies with Stacey, MA and Dawn. Maybe he's already cheating??? Also saw the same foreshadowing that Redhead mentioned with Stacey. I like these instances of continuity.

At the end of Jessi's Baby-Sitter, Mallory is worried about her dad's company laying off employees.

^ I totally missed that one but wondered if Poor Mal was foreshadowed. Glad to hear it was.

Also saw the same foreshadowing that Redhead mentioned with Stacey. I like these instances of continuity. I recently re read that one and thought that too! I also thought their breakup was a bit foreshadowed in Super special # 13.

I picked up on the Stacey's Emergency foreshadowing, and all the 20's were pretty good.

^ There is a lot before Stacey's Emergency. I've also noticed some about her parents' divorce lately, which I never picked up on before.

In Kristy and the Sister War, they foreshadowed Claudia's relationship problems with Mark. Kristy goes on a blind double date with Claudia and Mark, and Kristy mentions how poorly he treats Claudia (arriving late for their date, igoring her to talk with his friend). Sure enough, the next book is Claudia Makes Up Her Mind, where Claudia gets fed up with Mark and breaks up with him.

When did they decide the series would continue past the first 4 books? Cause I'm reading The Truth About Stacey now and she is talking about Mallory, how Mallory flits between the sitters and the charges when they throw the Big Brother party for Jamie and it seems like a lot in the early books they talk about how helpful Mallory is. I'm not sure if it's intentional though.

^ I always noticed that and wondered about it, too. Maybe it was thrown in there "just in case".

Mmm... I didn't think about the 'past the first four' bit... good point!

^ I wonder if she was really intending on stopping or if in the back of her mind at least, she hoped that the series would take off. But she wouldn't want to say that maybe ;D The first four thing sounds better in PR and interviews.

I kind of think it was a "just in case" thing, cause 10 year old Mallory being sooo helpful and like a "2nd sitter" doesn't make sense otherwise considering later 10 year old charges are JUST charges and act like freakin' kindergarteners half the time.

I used to wonder if maybe it didn't work in the opposite direction. Like Ann and the ghostwriters are brainstorming for a new plot and skim through some older ones for inspiration, then someone says, "Oh hey! Dawn and Mary Anne's house is a fire hazard! Let's use that!" Especially since they would have been running low on story ideas by the end of the series. Some of the plots (like the McGills' divorce or Jeff's return to California or Mallory joining the club) seem planned in advance, but I think other plots were influenced by comments or events from the past rather than the normal sort of foreshadowing.
