See, I personally didn't get why they all freaked out over the snake. I mean, I can understand some of them being put off by it, but all of the girls?! I've always liked snakes. Now, if there had been a centipede habitat, THAT I wouldn't have touched without oven mitts or whatever Jessi used. (Also, does anyone remember what she fed the snake? The only snakes I've had contact with ate live food...)

As for snakes and live food, I remember being taken out of the snake exhibit at the Detroit zoo screaming because I was so grossed out by the "live food" they were being fed. I don't think I would care for a snake for any amount - well....

I'm not really afraid of snakes, though 'liking' is a big word. I'd take care of them for a big amount of money but I don't think there's any amount of money in the world I'd feed them live food like a mouse or something for. I agree it's weird for all the girls to be freaked out by snakes. You'd say Kristy wouldn't be scared of them, or maybe someone like Claudia or Stacey would consider them 'cool' or something.

About the cats and the birds, my cats also stare out the window at birds as potential sources of food. And I know Wednesday can catch mice, so she's probably interested in other rodents, too.
I used to have a bird before I had cats. When he saw a cat walk by outside, he would beat himself against the bars of his cage, he got that freaked out. (I think I've mentioned him before. He was a myna bird named Uncle Feather. I was a Judy Blume fan, as well as a BSC fan.)

Hee! Awesome. Mynah Birds are so smart! I haven't seen one in years, since the exotic pet store down the street closed when I was a kid.

If I'd bought a bird back when my cat was a bit younger, it would've lasted about a day. Seriously, back in her heydey, my kitty was a superstar - over the years she's caught tons of birds, rodents of all kinds, rabbits and even a bat. Plus she's scared away tons of big, full-sized dogs. She'd totally rule the Mancusi (sp?) zoo.
Anyway. This book was a major let-down when I re-read it. Even the fight was lame. Yeah, Kristy's annoyingly bossy, but didn't she just want them to check off a box? It's not like she's asking them to read and briefly summarize the notebook every week, or something. I think it had more to do with trust than with the actual new rule, but it was still not as interesting as I thought I remembered.
And the ending? Extra lame. Totally stale, if you will. The last line of the book is something like "because best friends always talk" or some random garbage like that. Not your best effort, Ann!

^ Can't totally blame Ann, I mean, how about the person who "helped her with the manuscript?"

I read this for the first time a few months back. ITA about the pets, no thanks-you! Jessi should have recieved lots of $$ for that job, it was a busy one!

Why was Jessi even allowed to take this job? Didn't Kristy make some sort of no pets rule in Great Idea after being "tricked" into watching those dogs?

^ I thought the same thing about the pet rule. I can't remember why Jessi was allowed to take the job. That always seemed a little strange to me. Agree she deserved big $$ for it. I wouldn't have taken it for any amount. Well, I take that back.... ;D

^ I think she was allowed to take the job because her ballet school was closed that week or something, so she had a lot of extra time that normally she wouldn't have.

I remember that Jessi did have extra time but I was just surprised anyone was allowed to take a pet job. Thought Kristy would be more against that ("Kids Only!" ;D)

Kristy is just against any other activities that would take away from baby-sitting. lark, I think you're right. Wasn't Jessi "allowed" to take the job because she'd be at the Mancusis' instead of being at her ballet classes or the Braddocks anyway, so it wasn't as if she was taking any extra time. Or something like that.

Okay. That makes sense. ;D I am reluctant to reread as all the pets in the one house gross me out ;D And I'm with MA on her feelings on the snake ;D I would have been out of there at the first sighting ;D

I see what your saying aln. Kristy made it a rule or something, in #1. But yeah, I think it was because jessi was willing to do it.
