^hahahahaha haven't we all. i always enjoy giving my titles really cheesy titles too.
in addition to the rodents, think of all the cats they have. and imagine their dogs after a rainy day. god the mancusis really should have just adopted a child to fill the hole in their life than 3827832726712378 pets.

I liked the names they gave their pets, though. I can't really remember what they were, but...yeah. I remember liking them I thought it was really funny how when Jessi was first introduced to the animals, Mr. Mancusi would stand and stare at her, waiting for her to say something to each of them. ;D

^ I had forgotten this. Maybe it is worth a reread for the funnier parts. If I light a scented candle or something, maybe that would cover up the "smell" in my imagination ;D

I guess I'm in the minority - I would've taken on the sitting job at the Mancusis' for free! It sounded like so much fun to me. Of course, I'd love to have birds, cats, a snake and guinea pigs all in the same house!

I don't really like the pet part but I have always thought the bsc fight in this book was one of the best of the series.
Also, who takes a hamster to a vet? that always struck me as kind of weird.

^agreed esp about the hamster going to the vet. I'm sorry but I really do think jessi overreacted and then either her mom or aunt c (can't remember which) actually taking her to the vet... weird.

If I were 11, I'd take my hamster to the vet, so I don't think it's too weird Jessi did that. I definitely wouldn't do that at my age, though! I'd forgotten about that part about Mrs. M. introducing her pets, then expecting Jessi to talk to them. I love how all the non-pet BSC members (Dawn, Stacey, and up until this book, Jessi) feel kinda stupid when they talk to animals. I talk to my cat, but I wouldn't expect anyone else to. Mrs. M. seems kind of strange. Greer, I love making up cheesy titles, too! In psychology there's not a ton of room for that (d**n APA formatting and its strict guidelines!), but I had fun with my English essays. I named my essay on "The Frog Prince Continued" (for children's lit) "Hoppily Ever After." The cheesier, the better!

My aunt took my cousin's hamster to the vet once. Of course, it was after it bit her finger and literally got it's tooth stuck in it. Very gross! She took it to make sure it didn't have some kind of disease or something (not sure why the vet would be able to tell this since she had to go to the dr. anyway....) Turns out, the hamster had bitten her because it was sick and the vet put it to sleep. Glad this one turned out better than that. My poor cousin was so upset (he was only 7 at the time) I just started wondering if the Mancusis know the Gardettas or those people Kristy dog sat for in Great Idea. Maybe they could bond over their "babies" ;D

I don't think it's weird to take a hamster to the vet if it's sick, but...Jessi couldn't figure out a giant, grumpy hamster might be pregnant?

^ Reminds me of the time my cousins (who were about Jessi's age at the time ;D) were taking care of our horses and cats and ran out of the barn screaming to their mom - "Buddy's having cats! He's a SHE! He's a SHE! And CATS are coming out of her!" We still tease them about that. ;D Makes me wonder (can't remember) did Jessi witness the hamster birth? The only births I've seen are cats - horses would always wait until we went inside for 5 minutes ;D The cat births were actually pretty gross, though.

^ One of our cats started to do that, too. It was soooo gross. I can still picture it. I've got to think of something good to get the thought out of my mind... What was the subplot in this one?

Hahaha the subplot is one of the most snarkified fights in the BSC. ;D Kristy is getting even more bossy (but blames it on Charlie), forcing the BSC to read the Notebook to such a point where she makes a chart that they have to fill in every week and the BSC go OMG you don't trust us and you are not the boss of this club! So they have re-elections because MA, Dawn and Claudia want to change their roles in the club and say that Kristy must do it as well. Then Jessi and Mallory are scared to take sides so they spend most of the meetings going "Um, ah, well, er.." Then it turns out happily because everyone, even MA, Claudia and Dawn vote for themselves for their old positions... which has no logic, why did they bother having elections then? I suppose it's all for the moral

And Kristy tapes the schedule up over a picture of Stacey or something? lmao.
