I remember reading this in school. It was either in the library or my 4th grade classroom had it.
I agree with others on here - it sounds like Claudia was still reeling from losing Mimi and she was looking for some reason as to why she feels she doesn't belong in her family. I remember her being really upset in the book and saying she wished Mimi was still alive because she could ask her and Mimi wouldn't judge her for it. That took some serious guts phoning up strangers and asking them about their kids! And at the same time, kind of creepy. Geez Claudia!
And I want her turquoise shoes with the ankle straps heh. They sound nice!
To whoever asked whether this book or her Portrait Collection was written first (when Janine tells her about the day she was brought home from the hospital), I remember when the portraits were released because it was right when I was really into the BSC. I looked it up on Wikipedia and sure enough, this came out in 1990, her Portrait came out in 1995.

^Claudia could be fed up with Janine or mad at her for some reason and want to try and find something that isn't "perfect" (to Claud) about her older sister. Either that or the Kishis are coming closer to "catching" onto Claudia's stash so she (C) raids her sister's room for better hiding place ideas! Hey, I like this idea. Now I'm picturing Claudia planting some junk food in Janine's room as a distraction so that she was caught instead of Claudia. Claudia would be sneaking bagfuls of candy out of the house to hide in the bushes while her parents were busy yelling at Janine for the one Snickers bar they found.

^Lol, the only "problem" might be if the Kishis "caught" Janine, they might wise up and want to double check Claudia's room right after. I'd definitely enjoy reading such a story though.

I was in 4th grade too when reading this, except it was 1993.

Did it ever say just how many more photos the Kishis had of Janine? Were there also a lot more recent photos of her than Claudia?

^I don't know, but speaking from experience it totally happens where the older kids have more pictures. Especially solo shots. Like Janine's baby pictures were probably her doing typical cute baby things, and Claudia's baby pictures were Janine holding Claud, Janine eating a sandwich while Claud sits in her high chair, Janine posing a tutu while Claud lays on the floor like a blob, etc...

Plus I guess it's busier when raising 2 kids instead of one, although in my family, we got an even number of baby pictures. It sounded so unrealistic that there were barely any from the beginning.

Almost all of the pictures of me as a kid are me with my brother and there are definitely WAY more of him.

I'm the oldest, but my parents weren't really into taking pictures of any of us. The ones that DO exist are pretty evenly spread between the four of us.

With the shutterbugs we have for parents we don't have to take many photos ourselves!. And am I the only one who's been dragged very reluctantly into digital cameras? Not that I was any great shakes as a photographer with film, I just find it inconvenient.

I first was introduced to digital cameras 7 years ago now at a school I taught at. At the time I thought they were very complicated to use and never did get how to edit photos. Even then, I could see how neat it would be to be able to preview a picture instantly without printing it-- shades of the ancient Polaroids. 2 years later, I got the Canon I have now and thanks to practice and Kodak Gallery making it relatively simple (I am learning Shutterfly, btw), I am very glad to have invested in the camera. Now, ask me about fancy cell phones or video cameras and lol my eyes would probably glaze over or I'd tune out eventually. Basic Digital cameras, definitely get my thumbs up.

I've been using a digital camera for 3 or 4 years now, and I love it! I would have gotten one sooner, but I had school debt to pay off first.

I still can't use one properly, just the phone one. I'm not techy as I used to be.

I thought I would take more pictures when I bought a digital camera, but that just hasn't happened. I love that they double as a video recorder though. I wish I had home movies of my childhood, but we never had a camcorder.
