Ha, I was trying to think of a way to say I did, too, when I was thirteen, but it kept sounding like something that would have been taken out of context in the sexual references thread

I don't think the book promoted it as well. It just took me by surprise the first time I read it. Actually I think Stacey being proud of that is probably something some teenage girls are proud of while others are embarrassed by it.

Re: filling her top -- Yeah, I agree. Girls that age definitely notice who's got what, and it's a big deal to them. In junior high, it's all about where you are in the flock of sheep ;D
Re: Stacey's hobbies -- I have NEVER heard of a 13-year-old reading Agatha Christie. If she liked mysteries, it would probably be more appropriate for her to be sharing Claudia's Nancy Drews, or maybe an R.L. Stine. If she was a REALLY advanced reader, she might've been reading a Stephen King, but I don't really get that "voracious reader" vibe off Stacey.
Or, if she liked crafty things -- and fashion -- I think it'd be more believable to have Stacey making friendship bracelets. I remember making a lot of those things in the late '80s/early '90s, when I was an adolescent. But needlepoint?! Uh, no. Even if Stacey truly enjoyed that, I think it would be a big no-no to her, being seen doing something so ultra uncool in public...

^ Actually, I read Agatha Christie when I was 13. I didn't love them but did like a few of them. I wasn't "cool" like Stacey, though ;D and the hobbies seem out of character for her. Maybe they were trying to go against the stereotype of fashion-crazy airhead, though. I think they said the kids were 13 but the interests that they gave them and their behavior were actually much older.

Ugh! I got my first bra the summer before I went into fourth grade, I wasn't even 10 yet. (got my braces that summer too...ugh). so by the time i was 13 I had a fairly sizeable chest. Though on the covers of the books, it seems like Stacey is fairly average for a 13 year old I'd guess...while Mary Anne and Kristy lagged behind in the developing department

I think the needlepoint is justified because stacey says she's been working on it for lik five years. She's still too cool to take needlepoint seriously.

I used to get those latchhook kits for my birthday, and it would always take me forever to do one!
I'm starting to think that Stacey being in "luv" with Scott based on practically nothing is actually sort of realistic for someone her age. I mean, I totally did the same thing!

I just reread this one, and I have to say that Stacey thinking Scott was in "luv" with her IS totally realistic, and he didn't help the situation any. Calling her love and babe was one thing...but giving her his whistle!?! I think he totally knew what he was doing by leading a 13 year old girl on, and he was eating it up! Let's not forget the other girls crowding around him before and after Stacey...

^ I think it's realistic, too, especially since he really seemed to lead her on. I felt so sorry for Stacey in this one. She has bad luck in Sea City with boys

^What 17 year old boy actually says the things Scott said to Stacey? That part DID strike me as weird with this last reading. Although, since this book was published 20 FREAKING YEARS AGO, Scott would now be 37, and not only would his comments make more sense, his age would match the picture on the front of the book. Incidentally, Scott on this book and Travis on "Dawn and the Older Boy" look a lot alike. And they act alike, come to think about it. Maybe they're brothers or something!

Ah Sea City my favourite place in the world! When I was younger Scott totally didnt look so unusually old, but NOW looking at the cover its hilarious. Imagine not knowing what the BSC is and looking at the title Boy Crazy Stacey, seeing a very young looking Stacey and a VERY OLD looking Scott. You must wonder what on earth the book is about!

Re reading all the Sea city books I feel really bad for Stacey, she seems to have such bad luck with boys in Sea city. I used to not think that way, and just was mad at her for being a brat to Mary Anne and all the other girls, but now I can see why she felt so bad.

^ My exact thoughts (as usual ), msstock. I also feel for Stacey in Sea City and can see why she's a brat. I didn't see it as much when I was younger, but now think that Scott really led her on. And she must feel awful in MA and Too Many Boys when shy MA who has a boyfriend at home, anyway, has a good time with Alex while Toby dumps her.

^ My favorite Toby moment was in the postcard Margo sent Stacey in "Chain Letter" saying she saw him on the beach with an ugly girl. I never noticed that before, but I thought it was funny.
